NESS, Alvin (Al) Ernest

September 13, 1930 – Consort, Alberta
October 2, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Alvin (Al) Ness, beloved husband of Eleanor Ness (nee Hartley) of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the age of 84 years.

Alvin was born to Inga and Olaf Ness on the farm in the Consort, AB area. After High School, he attended and graduated from the Full Gospel Bible Institute in Eston, Saskatchewan, where he met his wife Eleanor. After graduation they returned to the farm before Alvin became a Gas Measurement Technician with Alberta Gas Trunk Line. He moved around with the company, eventually moving up corporately to an Engineering Technologist position with Nova Corporation (formerly Alberta Gas Trunk Line). Alvin spent thirty-five years with Nova, retiring in 1990. Besides Alvin’s love for his Lord Jesus Christ, he had three loves in his life: Flying airplanes, (having earned his Private Pilots License); helping people (which was often by keeping their cars running, working as a hobby mechanic); and spending time with his family. As his family was growing up, he spent a lot of time camping at the lake with his wife and children. Upon retirement, Alvin and his wife Eleanor established a second home at the Good Life Resort in Mesa, Arizona, enjoying a more relaxing lifestyle and making many new friends. It was at this time Alvin developed another line to his love of helping people, by becoming a ‘hobby naturalist’.

Alvin is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Eleanor; their children, Bev Ness (Gloria) and their four sons, Troy (Sandy), Sheldon (Trish), Joseph (Rahimay)and David; Wesley Ness (Lynn) and their four children, Christie (Owen), Jackie (Dave), Ryan and Arika (Matt); and Cheryl Switzer (Paul) and their three sons, Cody (Bree-Anna), Levi and Keenan (Monique); along with thirteen great-grandchildren. Alvin will also be missed by his only remaining sister, Alice Wilson and her husband Rev. Robert Wilson, and numerous nieces and nephews. If friends do so desire, the Ness family respectfully ask that donations be made to Eston College (Box 579, Eston, Saskatchewan, SOL 1A0, Telephone 1-888-440-3424 Attn: Brenda Frost)

A Celebration of Al’s Life will be held at the Full Gospel Tabernacle (155 Falconridge Crescent N.E.) on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through

In living memory of Alvin Ness, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
