NELSON, Genevive “Sandra”

December 25, 1939 – Burbank, California
February 13, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Sandra “San” Nelson of Calgary passed away after a long illness on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the age of 75 years.

Sandra was a devoted wife to her first husband Don, by which her first two daughters were born: Sheryl and Sherice. She became an important asset and precious wife to her second husband Jim, and raised their two children, Sheryl and Sherice’s brother and sister: Jay and Nicole.

Sandra had many passions, including writing and reading, bettering herself through involvement in Toastmasters and her membership in the Writing Guild of Calgary. She loved cats and horses, and collected fine art, decorative plates and figurines, books, crystal…but best of all was her collection of friends spanning two countries and an entire lifetime. Sandra had a magnetic way of making those who just met her instantly like her…to her dying day. Get-togethers and parties at Sandra’s house are legend. You arrived feeling like a celebrity and left feeling like family. She was a rare and fun individual with a beautiful spirit.

She was much loved and adored by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

San is survived by her children, Sheryl Kauspedas of Denver, CO. Sherice and Martin Karol of Castle Rock, CO, Jacque “Jay” Phillipe Goyette Jr. of Vienna, VA, and Nicole Doucet of Calgary, AB; ten grandchildren, Michael Kauspedas (Grace), Ashley Tills, Danielle Wagoner (Dan), Brittany Williams (Tim), Jason Kauspedas, and Tracy Karol all of Colorado, Chris Goyette of San Diego, CA, Justin Goyette of Richmond, VA; and Daniel Dick and Aithan Doucet both of Calgary, AB; and seven great-grandchildren, Liam Birchfield, Christian Tills, Scarlett Tills, Elijah Kauspedas, Luke Wagoner, Benjamin Kauspedas, and Megan Kauspedas. She is also survived by her siblings, Joe Nelson (Carol), Jude “Butch” Nelson, Gale Hinrichsen (Carl), and Ramona “Ramie” Wakefield (Tim); and by her four cats, Peekachu, Smirk, Wild and Pokie. She was predeceased by her first husband Donald Schowengerdt; second husband James (Jim) Phillipe Goyette; parents Fred and Agnes “Buddie” Nelson.

  2. Keith Kauspedas :

I loved sharing jazz cassettes and CD’s with San. She had great taste in music, when I listen to jazz I’ll always think of her. Her love for cats was uncompromising; I remember sending my cat by airplane to her when I couldn’t take him to England, I know that cat had a good home. She was a great mother-in-law and I’ll miss her.
