June 1, 1926 – May 3, 2012
Bette passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the age of 85 years.
Bette was born in Regina, SK and moved to Calgary in 1944 where she dated and married Hank in 1948. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a warm, caring and positive attitude towards family, extended family and friends, always including them at family dinners and celebrations. Over the years, Bette enjoyed many wonderful vacations with her children, grandchildren and friends, including trips to England, Hawaii, Florida and California as well as countless holidays and weekends in Whitefish, Montana. Bette’s wonderful personality and positive outlook on life helped her to overcome physical challenges during her later years at Lake Bonavista Village. There she met many wonderful friends who gave her much enjoyment and laughter during the eight years after Hank passed away. She will also be missed dearly by her lifelong friend Val Beeman who visited her faithfully and with whom she shared many wonderful times and memories.
Bette will be lovingly remembered by her children Lesley (John) Ewing and Guy (Leslie) Nelson; and her five grandchildren, Andrea and Geoff Ewing and Ryan, Trevor and Liseanne Nelson. She was predeceased by Hank, her loving husband of fifty-four wonderful years, and by her sister, Nona Fleming. The family is incredibly pleased that their much loved mother and grandmother was very ready to take her next journey to reconnect once again with Hank “up there.”
Her family wishes to thank the caring staff at Lake Bonavista Village, Dr. Scott-Douglas and the dedicated healthcare workers at Calgary South Dialysis for their assistance with Bette (Bling), Sam from Driving Miss Daisy, as well as the Palliative Care Team in her last weeks. Bette had a wonderful life, which was significantly enhanced by all these supportive people during her later years.
At Bette’s request, no service will be held. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to sponsor the team of Heather Dean during Kidney March (www.kidneymarch.ca).
