MUTH – Rodney Brian

September 21,1953 – August 21, 2011

On Sunday, August 21, 2011, we suddenly and sadly lost our favorite guy, dad, and husband, Rodney Brian Muth.

Rod was born in Lloydminster (the SK side) on September 21, 1953, the eldest of seven boys born to Bernice and Walter Muth. He spent many summers working on family farms before moving to Saskatoon to attend engineering at the U of S. It was there, during a Snow Golf tournament dance, that he met the love of his life, Sally. After graduating in 1980, Rod worked in Aberdeen before returning home to Saskatoon to claim his bride. Sally and Rod were married on May 1, 1982 and shortly after moved to Calgary to pursue a career in the oil industry. He was well respected and passionate about his work, spending the last eleven years with Calfrac Well Services. They were blessed with two beautiful girls, Lauren and Casey. Rod said that his girls were the best thing he ever did. Rod and Sally felt fortunate to be able to travel with their girls, especially to his favorite place on earth- Sao Lourenco, Santa Maria, Azores (his island). It was there he spent the last few weeks of his life. Rod is survived by his beloved girls: his wife, Sally, and their daughters, Lauren and Casey (Scott); his mother, Bernice; his brothers: Richard (Colleen), Duane (Tracy), Calvin (Heather), and Gerry (Carmen). He will be lovingly remembered by his sister in law, Patty (Colin), brothers in law, Tony (Diane) and Jorge (Katie), numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and too many friends to count. Rod was predeceased by his father, Walter, brothers Greg and Kenneth, and his in-laws, Maria and Victor Puim.

Hope they serve dobla vodkas in heaven. Salute!

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in appreciation for his brother Duane’s new heart.

In living memory of Rod Muth, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403)243-8200.

    Sally and family,
My sincere thoughts are with you, and your family, at this difficult time. Rod and I worked hard, and played hard during our times at Nowsco, and they are good times that I’ll never forget. Over the more recent years, Rod always had time to stop for a good BS session, reminiscing about the good old days, and keeping me abreast of how his family was doing….a great man who will be missed by many!

  4. Sally,
Words cannot express what you are going through – it still feels like a dream and not reality. I know you are reliving every last few moments remembering conversations and asking yourself why?

When I lost Lou, I felt the same thing. Like your world has just fallen apart and you feel so lost not knowing what to do next or where to turn. You feel like you are just existing but without a purpose. Life is a gift yet we take it for granted until something like this happens to make us realize all the small things we worried about – means nothing now. Cherish your last memories of the vacation you had together. Don’t have any regrets – it was meant to be and nothing you could have done would have saved him. Be strong for the girls – they will be watching you to see how you hold up through this sad time. Sally – keep busy afterwards. Don’t sit at home – the sooner you can get back into a routine and live, the better for you and everyone around you. Life will never be the same but it doesn’t mean that it has to end for you. We know we have been through it.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.
    Maria, Jade and Brandon.

If you ever need someone to talk to please do not hesitate to call or email me.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Rod’s passing. Our deepest condolences to Sally, Lauren, Casey and the rest of the Muth family. We have many fond memories of Rod and the great times he and Rob shared, skiing, fishing, and other activities, all of which Rod bested him at (according to Rod!!!). As always in our busy lives, we find ourselves saying: “I wish we had spent more time together”. He will be deeply missed.

  6. Kevin and Cheryl Jabusch :

Sally…. We are so saddenned… We feel your pain…. Sometimes it doesnt seem fair.

Rod was such a special person, so full of passion for everything we did together, partying with the “boys from “Lloyd”, making wine, making his special Lasagna, playing squash, golfing, talking about our kids, sand concentrations and fracing, to name only a few. I regret having lost touch with Rod in recent years as he was one of my most admired friends.

We feel so fortunate to have known him, and will continue to think of him often.

    Love and support

    Kevin and Cheryl

  9. George Tulle/MRL Integrated Solutions Ltd. :

    To Sally, Casey, and Lauren:

Rod was an absolute gentleman to us at MRL Integrated Solutions Ltd. He supported our little company working for Calfrac when we began and was so encouraging to us at all times as we got started in what has become a 6 year working relationship. Rod made doing business fun and light hearted. Every time I saw Rod he was one of those people who just made you immediately smile before a word was said or a handshake took place. I believe in my heart Rod has truly left the world a better place.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we hope time will some how bring relief from the grief of your loss and the fond memories of Rod will shine through and bring joy to you for the rest of your days.

  19. Sally, Casey and Lauren,
My deepest condolences to you and all of your family My prayers are with you in these time of sadness. Rod was my friend for many years working in the industry. He was my running partner for the last 2 years, with flashlights strapped to our heads we ran every Monday wed and Fridays regardless of weather conditions, minus 20 or plus 20 I could always count on him to be there at 6:10 AM. I will cherish many memories of the time I shared with him. I can never understand why God picks the best flowers in the field first. He will truly be missed by all.

  21. Oh Sally, Lauren & Casey, I am so very very sorry for your loss. My heart and prayers go out to you. I hope it comforts you to know that you were the absolute love and light of Rod’s life; and that your many happy memories will sustain you through this difficult period ahead. I think this sort of loss is perhaps the most difficult to bear. I think 6 weeks and 6 months are hard anniversaries, and of course all the family special days have a conspicuous absence. They same Time helps. I think for the first year everything is new and then there is the realization of “oh, this is how it will be now.” He will live in your hearts and minds always, but somehow we learn how to keep going. I send you big big hugs. Be kind to yourselves and each other. And of course if you’re in Saskatoon please call, and we have a guest room.
    Love Always
    June, Kevin, & Sarah
