MURRAY, Lois

October 20, 1954 – Smithville, ON
October 14, 2013 – Calgary, AB

With heavy hearts and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Lois. She was taken from us on Monday, October 14, 2013 at the age of 58 years.

Lois was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was born on October 20th in Grimsby, Ontario to Ray and Erma Lounsbury and raised on a dairy farm in Smithville, ON.

In 1973, she attended the University of Guelph where she met Colin and they were married six years later. Colin and Lois moved to Calgary where they established themselves in their careers and started a family.

Lois was very talented with sewing, arts and crafts and she taught over forty children how to sew. She loved making home-made greeting cards and brightening someone’s day with one of her creations and a heartfelt note. She had a great eye for fashion, colour coordination and design. Once Andrew and Lisa finished school, Lois worked at several places over the years, including Ben Moss Jewellers, Weekender’s Clothing, and most recently, McInnis & Holloway as a Grief Counselor. She genuinely cared for people and wanted to help them feel at ease.

Lois’ memory will be forever cherished by her loving husband Colin, son Andrew, daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Josh, all of Calgary, her mother, Erma Lounsbury of Smithville, ON, and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Jim Walker, and Elaine and Paul Weylie of ON. Lois will also be missed by many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Ray Lounsbury and father and mother-in-law, Ivor and Joan Murray.

Funeral Services will be held at St. David’s United Church (3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. A second Funeral Service will be held in Ontario at Fulton Stone United Church (2906 Highway 20, E., West Lincoln, ON) on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to March of Dimes Canada, 10 Overlea Blvd., Toronto, ON M4H 1A4, Phone: 1-800-263-3463, www.marchofdimes.ca; donorservices@marchofdimes.ca or a charity of donor’s choice.

In living memory of Lois Murray, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  18. Colin, I am so saddened about the untimely death of Lois. When I worked in the office at SPB, I got to know Lois well and we got together fairly often. Over the years we lost touch but I will always remember her as a friend I wanted to be around. She always had that wonderful smile and warm words of welcome whenever I saw her. Please know that she will always be in my heart. Sincerely, Judy Prusky

  19. Liz Burney, Calgary :

Colin and family: I will always remember attending the Paul Brandt concert with you and Lois many years ago and am thankful for her kindness and understanding during her grief counselling session back in 2006….she was a wonderful person and I know, she will be missed by many.

As with mother nature, there is an appointed time when all activity must cease. A time to rest, a time to sleep. It is then that we reflect upon the beauty brought to us by memories from the past. Many have shared the blessings of your beloved Lois, who has gone on before us, and in this time of sorrow, we join with you in sharing the loss. We share the sorrow, but cherish rich memories which will live in our hearts forever. Now in this season, we pray that God will be with you and bless you.
