  7. Rada Baljak :

My condolences to the family of Ms. Lillian Munz.

Ms. Munz (as I knew her) was my grade 7 teacher at Colonel Irvine School. Coincidentally, just a few days ago I thought about the teachers that had made an impact on my life throughout my school years and Ms. Munz was definitely one of those individuals. I always thought of her whenever Tanzania was mentioned, she shared many stories with us, she taught us about that part of the world when travel was not as opportune as it is today and her enthusiasm just lit up the room.

She invited our entire class to her home for lunch on a Saturday as a farewell to our grade 7 year. She resided in a condominium just over on 12th Avenue, we were all amazed at the view but were more amazed by all the souvenirs she shared with us that she had brought back from Tanzania.

I wanted to share with your family how such a wonderful individual impacted my life in such a postive manner.

    Again, my sincere condolences.

    Rada Baljak

  11. Marilyn Harrison :

I taught with Lillian at H. A. Gray in 1963/64 but sadly lost contact with her after we moved. During that year she gave me a painting she had completed as a practice piece which we have had (and still have) in our various homes over the years. Some years ago our son visited the MoMA, NYC Art Gallery where he recognized the original. Obviously, the painting had become part of his memories from early childhood.
I am saddened that I didn’t realize Lillian lived in Calgary.

My sincere condolences to her family.

  13. Shelley Fraser :

I was saddened to hear the loss of Ms. Munz. Over the years I often thought about her. She arrived at Van Horne the same year I attended. She was my homeroom and typing teacher for three semesters. She was an inspiration to me. She helped me run for school president, which I won. Our classroom won the unicef school drive among other high schools in Calgary. Our class also won for raising the most food and items for hampers. However, I never did get the opportunity to ever tell her that my typing skills helped me write 4 books. She was indeed an inspiration, but I shall continue to use the skills she taught me. I will always be greatful to her. Well done Ms. L Munz!!
