Edita Mummery, passed away early Sunday morning on April 6, 2008 at the Beverly Care Centre in Calgary, AB.
Edita Mummery was born in Lipnik, Czechoslovakia, and travelled to England after Hitler’s invasion of her homeland. She also served in the RAF during WWII, and immigrated to Canada (Toronto) in November 1956. Edita was a very special individual and many will experience her loss. As a social worker for the Catholic Children’s Aid Society in the North York Branch, Toronto, she was a pioneer in community-based services for the Lawrence Heights Community. She dedicated over thirty-five years of service to the Foster Care Department and helped develop and institute programs for the screening and training of foster parents. Edita fought and helped to change the condominium taxation law from her Elgin Street condo in Thornhill Ontario. She touched many lives and left big footprints for all of us to follow in.
Edita is survived by her son Shane (Sandra) of Maryland, USA; daughter, Susanna (Donald) Duggan of Parksville, BC; grandchildren, James (Janice) Parker of Calgary, Andrew (Connie) Parker of Edmonton, AB and Nicole (Shawn) Smith of Vancouver, BC; step-grandchildren, Lorraine (Ken) Warner of Hinton, AB, Michael (Marilyn) Nelson of Chestermere, AB, and Dallas Nelson of Calgary; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Eric, Ashley, Jerrod, Lucas, Taylor, Cody, Courtney, Morgan and Parker.
