MULLAN, Katherine M. “Kay” (nee Bach)

November 11, 1915 – February 20, 2015

Beloved Mother of Donna Mullan and Patricia Zambory passed away peacefully at the Beverly Glenmore-Care Centre at the age of 99 years. Her death was with the same grace and quiet dignity with which she lived her long life.

Katherine (better known as Kay) was born in Spokane, Washington, USA and moved as a small child with her family to the farming district around Champion, Alberta. She was the middle child of seven children and attended Bow Valley and Champion schools and St. Mary’s High School in Calgary for grade 12.

After completing high school, Katherine attended the Holy Cross School of Nursing in Calgary, graduating in 1937. While in training she met John Mullan who was a patient at the time and they were married on September 27, 1937. During WWII while John served overseas with the R.C.C.S. from 1941 to 1945 and until retirement age Katherine carried out her nursing profession with great skill, love and devotion. The latter years of nursing were spent with the Canadian Red Cross mobile blood clinic.

Katherine was always very involved in her parish community of St. Anne’s, was the first president of the C.W.L. there and continued to be a member up to her death.

Besides her two daughters, Katherine is survived by a granddaughter Donna Marie Zambory and two grandsons Jeffrey Zambory and Stephen Zambory (Jennifer) and two great-grandchildren Eric and Leah Zambory. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law Peggy Bach of Vulcan, Alberta and Elsie MacGillivray of Nanimo, B.C. as well as several nieces, nephews and their families. Katherine was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, in 1987, her parents, Anthony and Regina Bach, four brothers: Leonard, Harold, Robert and Richard, and two sisters: Margaret Hunziger and Leona Gallagher and a son-in-law John Zambory.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Beverly Glenmore-Care Centre and to Dr. Ed Verbeek for their tender care and devotion to Mother for the last two and a half years.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.) on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. 1. Doug and Helen Taylor :

Helen and I send our sincerest condolences to Donna on the passing of her dear mother. No mother had a better and more caring daughter over a long period of time. There is no doubt that Katherine is now in a better place freed up from the vagaries of old age which she bore with such faith and grace.
