MRACEK, Catherine “Cathy” Anne

July 3, 1962– Gander, NL
July 20, 2013– Calgary, AB

Catherine “Cathy” Anne Mracek of Calgary, AB passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the age of 51 years.

Born July 3, 1962 in Gander, Newfoundland; our little Newfie grew up in Saskatoon and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Geo-Physics and Geological Engineering. Cathy worked both in oil and gas and national defence industries while living in Calgary after graduation. She took great pride in joining her dad and four older brothers as professional engineers. Keith Urban was her music of choice and she made a point of travelling and watching him live when ever she got the chance. She was also a season ticket holder of the Calgary Stampeders for many years and enjoyed watching games with her brother. When not working or travelling, fishing with dad became her vacation of choice, particularly up at Sealey Lake. During these trips playing cribbage with her dad and snacking on Jube-Jubes and peanuts occupied the evening.

After she was diagnosed with cancer and her mobility became reduced, she used her considerable photography skills to take photos at her niece’s soccer games. She was the unofficial team photographer at many championship and tournament games, and as such collected many medals over the last five years.

Cathy is survived by her father Bert and older brothers Michael, Bill John and Brian. She was predeceased by her mother Jean.

A Celebration of Cathy’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME, 338 – 4 Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2L7 Telephone: (306) 244 5577. Condolence Messages

  1. It was a pleasure to get to know Cathy a little bit as a visiting nurse. She had a great sense of humor. I’m really glad the family pulled together to permit her to go on her last fishing trip in 2012 to Saskatchewan. Best wishes to the family.

So saddened to hear of Cathy’s passing. She was a friend in grade school and I always hoped I’d see her again so we could catch up on old times. I remember her with fondness. My thoughts are with her family and friends.
