MOYER, Marilyn Lucille Elizabeth

Marilyn Lucille Elizabeth Moyer, born December 11, in a year of her choosing, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, passed silently while she slept, into a surprising and marvelous new adventure, while at her home in Calgary, Sunday, September 2nd, 2012.

But we don’t hear the silence. We hear the echo of Double M’s incredibly delicious laughter. Marilyn had such a sassy sense of humour. And even though Mar was cheeky, she showed us a real spirituality. Marilyn had enough love in her soul to send her to supreme heights… and Heaven is the ultimate.

Marilyn once wrote of a friend how they built their soul by effort and error, study and love. And how they did it with more dedication than most- not for their own benefit, but for the benefit of those who knew them. She said, “It’s hard to accept that a soul like theirs which took a lifetime to build, could cease to exist. But of course, their soul does exist, because they gave of it so freely and unstintingly. It exists in each of us who knew them.”

Marilyn could have been talking about herself.

When we speak of Marilyn, we speak of her great love for others: her cherished family who were such a huge support in her life; her countless friends who cared for her, as deeply as she cared about them. Double M’s friends included people from all walks of life: engaging entrepreneurs; unforgettable colleagues from the film industry; treasured caregivers; interesting personalities from all religions, genders; the disabled and the able bodied.

Our plucky Marilyn confronted many health issues over the years, but was never defined by them.

We appreciated her amazing wit, we counted on her wisdom, and we admired her conviction- Marilyn Moyer knew who she was. We will always, forever, remember Mar’s naughty laugh, as she swept back her hair with those fingers sporting screaming red nail polish, as the bangles on her arm went wild.

Surviving our unforgettable Marilyn is her favorite sister Joanne Moyer (Tom Byers); her other favorite sister Ardell (Lanny McDonald); nieces Andra (Josh Townsley, and great-nephews Calder and Hayden), Leah, Barrett (Kaci, and grand-niece Hadley), and Graham McDonald; and the angels at her side every day, Bing and Lulu.

Marilyn is enjoying happiness in Heaven with her beautiful mother Lucille, gentle father Frank, and beloved brother Gerard.

A celebration of Marilyn’s wonderful life will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 18th Avenue SW in Calgary) on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In honor of Marilyn, donations may be made to the Calgary HandiBus Association.

In living memory of Marilyn Moyer a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403)243-8200

Marilyn was indeed a special spirit in this world and I am blessed to have known her and had my life enlarged because of her. Her spicy emails, her heartfelt letters and phone calls and being in her presence made me feel like I was on top of the world. She had a way of making all those around her feel welcomed and loved. I shall miss our sweet Angel. I imagine she is kicking up a storm in the heavens, red nails and bangles included. All my love – Diane

  4. Dear Ardelle, Joanne and families…

What a beautiful tribute to Marilyn – I loved your words, it really did capture the spirit of “Mar”. I always admired her self confidence, her generosity of spirit and her wonderful sense of humour. I haven’t seen Marilyn for many years – but you are right… I can still hear the echos of her laughter! Marilyn could talk to anyone about anything… what a gift!

May your memories and the sharing of Marilyn “stories” with family and friends bring you peace. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers – with love.
    Joan (Miller) Townend

Those Hearts That We Have Treasured (by Sylvia Dunstan)

Those hearts that we have treasured,
those lives that we have shared,
those loves that walked beside us,
those friends for whom we’ve cared,
    their blessing rests upon us,
    their life is memory,
    their suffering is over,
    their spirits are set free.

They still give hope and comfort,
they did not lose the fight,
they showed us truth and goodness,
    they shine into our night.
    Remember days of gladness;
    remember times of joy;
    remember all the moments
    that grief cannot destroy.

From hearts that we have treasured,
from lives that we have shared,
from loves that walked beside us,
from friends for whom we’ve cared,
    we’ve learned to treasure kindness,
    we’ve learned that grace provides,
    we’ve learned to be together,
    we’ve learned that love abides.

  12. I have so many wonderful memories of Marilyn: the reference she wrote me that said “Dianne works well under constant supervision and constantly strives for adequacy”; the email that had me convinced she was giving up work to volunteer for the Red Cross… until I opened the attachment and saw the pic of her future “co-workers”, i.e. a bunch of shirtless hotties; all the times she called me a “pushy cow” as a term of endearment; her smile and big laugh. I’ll miss you, MM.

What a wonderful tribute to the most amazing, gracious, and loving woman! Mar and I had our years together in the North of 60 family. She was fiercely protective of “her” crew on that show and loved us all. My highlight of the day was to go up to her office, have a visit, and try to make her laugh- that great rolling laugh which I am sure could be heard at Albert Golo’s cabin across the river. That laugh and the joy that it brought made your day.
Double M- anyone who ever met you, mourns your passing. Godspeed on your journey.

May we extend our most sincere condolences at this very difficult time. In 1970 as I lived in “Res” at U of C, an amazing vibrant young lady became a dear friend, in no time. As I read Marilyn’s obituary, tears ran down my face as how perfectly and eloquently you captured Marilyn personality and the love, care, homour, and total frienship that she shared so givingly. Double M was a servant of God and his “Volunteer “, She will now soar in heaven as all Angels do !!! I was graced that she was part of my life.
