It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Morrison at the age of 66 years.

He will be remembered by the love of his life and best friend Jacquie Fitzgerald. Brian was an incredible father and dearly loved by his six children, Darcie (Ken), Chris (Lisa), Jessica (Alex), Amy, Darla and Spanky, and his grandson John. He was the eldest child of Donald and Marjorie Morrison, a brother to Marilyn (Brian), Alan, and Petie (Pat) and an uncle to Wesley, Dawn (Dave), Robbie, Michelle, Tyler and Emily.

Brian was born in Forfar, Scotland and moved to Calgary when he was seven. During his fifty-nine years in Calgary, he experienced and was very passionate about many careers including teaching, real estate, coaching and being a small business owner. A typical week in the life of Brian comprised of lunch with his dad, dinner with his children, Friday date night with Jacquie, 10:00 a.m. poker tournaments, soccer games, daily runs and all his children’s sporting events.

His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family and friends who meant everything to him. He was incredibly compassionate, loving and adored by everyone who crossed his path.

My thoughts go out to Brian’s whole family, especially Amy and Jess – my old soccer buddies whom I always thought were so lucky to have Brian as a dad. Brian was the best Rangers coach that we could ever ask for. He had so much patience with us, from ages 13 to 20 (the worst years!), egged us on when we were supposed to be “serious,” laughed at Brianne’s (lame) jokes, drove almost an hour across town to host practice, and assured me I was doing a great job even during my worst games. Brian, you’ll be dearly missed.

My hearts go out to you all right now. Brian coached me for alot of years in rangers soccer and he was always one of my all time favorite coaches. So patient and kind, and he always took extra time to let me know I was doing a good job and to help me warm up and get ready before games. Brian will be missed so much and I can truly say he was a coach that really made an impact on me. He will never be forgotten.

    Amy, Jessie and family,
I am incredibly sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad and our condolences to yourselves and the entire family. Brian’s effort and the energy that he put into coaching with the soccer program was much appreciated by not only the other coaches and the club, but mainly by the players. You cannot begin to count the number of requests that I had over the years to have him coach teams. He had the rare ability to get the best from his players while keeping their confidence up and their enjoyment of the game high. He was also just a class act and really enjoyable to be around. We are all going to miss him.
    Pete, Joanne and Karen

  12. Dear Morrison family
On our return from holidays we were saddened to learn about Brian’s passing. We knew Brian through his years coaching with the Calgary Rangers while our daughter Erin Elphinstone was playing as a teenager and a young woman for the club and I was coaching her teams.
Brian was an excellent soccer coach. Although I never had the good fortune to coach with him, I saw him out there coaching the Premier Girls and the fledgling Rangers Women’s team over the years when the club was growing. I believe each year that Jessie moved up an age group it was the first year for that age group of girls with Rangers as there had not been a U14 or U16 or U18 or a Woman’s team for the club before that year. Brian was a great leader to have coaching the newest age group each year. Pete Coldham and Brian were such a good coaching pair for the women’s team. Our daughter Erin had the opportunity to play up for Brian a few times and to be coached by him finally when she moved on to women’s soccer and she really enjoyed those rare opportunities and wished she could have had him as a coach more over the years. He was a very kind man and had a lasting impact on the girls he coached. Erin, Dave and I all really thought highly of him both as a coach and as a person. We were saddened to hear of his passing. We know you will miss him very much. Our thoughts are with you.
Ellen Gasser, Dave Elphinstone and Erin
