February 13, 1925 – April 16, 2012
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, nonno and friend, Nick. He died peacefully at the age of 87.
Nick was born in Rivisondoli, Italy in 1925 and married his sweetheart Benilda in 1950. Nick immigrated to Canada two years later in hopes of finding a better life for his wife and newborn son. Confident he had found a new home, he returned to Italy and shortly thereafter in 1957 brought his family to start a new life in Calgary. Nick was known for honesty, hard work, precision, and dedication in everything he did. Whether it was maintaining his yard and garden, crafting his red wine, or his thirty-three years of service with the Canadian Pacific Railway, he instilled these values in his children.
Nick was a strong man with a soft heart who was always willing to strike up a conversation. He enjoyed meeting his buddies for a coffee or a Sunday picnic at Bowness Park, which always included a game of Bocce. Most of all, Nick loved to be surrounded by his family at the dinner table while enjoying a wonderful meal prepared by Benilda – his favourite chef!
Nick is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Benilda; three sons, Amato “Mat” (Lori), Al (Laurie), and John (Heather); and five grandchildren, Bradley, Brian, Jeffrey, Caley and Carter. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Emilio Falcione (Joan) and their family in Calgary and other extended family members in Italy and the United States. Nick was predeceased by his brother Ermanno; sister Elsa; and brothers-in-law, Pasqualino and Antonio.
