Molina Moran, Mario Antonio

Lovingly surrounded by his entire family Mario Antonio Molina Moran of Calgary, born in Paine, Chile on June 27, 1935, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2008. He was the youngest son of eight bothers and sisters of Maria and Alfredo Molina. Mario studied at the Salecianos Seminary in Macul, Santiago, Chile. He went on to graduate from the University of Chile with a Bachelor of Commerce later achieving Auditor General status. While working in San Bernardo, Santiago he met and married his beloved and devoted wife of forty-three years, Juana Solar Godoy. Together they had four children. In 1976, with his brother-in-law Timoteo and Norma Solar and their children, Silvia, Katherina, Monica, and Carlos, the two families fled Chile because of political persecution and briefly lived in Argentina before immigrating to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Mario and Juana’s dedication, passion and determination to ensure their overall family success brought them to Calgary in 1978, where they started a successful small business and finished raising their family. After his retirement, Mario became very involved with the Chilean seniors community and volunteered many hours supporting the Chilean consulate. His work here expanded to include all Hispanic communities. In 2004, the Columbian and Bolivian governments appointed him Special Representative for the Province of Alberta. His devotion to helping new Canadians, seniors, and anyone who was in need of legal, financial, or personal council was greatly appreciated and admired.    He found great reward by helping those in need. He did this with great faith, devotion and humility. Besides his beloved wife he  will be deeply missed by his children and their spouses, Fabiola and Bob Howard, Paula and Fernando Bazan, Carolina Molina and Trevor Wright, and Mario Jr. and Eleanor Molina; nine grandchildren, Andrea and Maria Howard, Paulina and Andre Bazan, Anthony Molina-Wright and Alyse, Lauren, Katie, and Amy Molina; as well as numerous extended family in Canada, Australia and Chile. Prayers in memory, honour and celebration of Mario’s life will be held at St Albert the Great Catholic Church (10 Prestwick Drive S.E.)
