MOLE, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Nee Major)

November 11, 1923 – October 1, 2011

Betty, born in Ottawa, November 11, the beloved Wife of John, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Bow View Manor Nursing Home in Calgary in her 88th year after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

As well as her husband of sixty years, she will surely be missed by her three sons, Steve (Shawn), David (Lan), and Peter (Kathleen); and three grandchildren, Tristan, Lucienne, and Daniel.

After graduation in Ottawa in 1943, Betty moved to Montreal to commence training as a Registered Nurse at the Montreal General Hospital and graduated in 1946. She immediately moved to Ste-Agathe, Que, sanatorium for sick people where she contracted pleurisy. After getting well she moved back to Montreal where she met John in 1950. We married on July 7, 1951. Betty loved life in every way, but two passions became who she was. First was raising our children into the fine young men they are today. Betty’s second passion was being a nurse and became the School Nurse at Christmas Park Elementary School in Beaconsfield, Que, where we lived and raised the children. A few years later she was asked to be the School Nurse at MacDonald High School in Sainte-Anne de-Bellevue, a short distance from Beaconsfield. Betty left nursing in 1976 and in 1991 we moved to Calgary to be close to the boys. We met wonderful friends at Confederation Park, where we started playing bridge and still see them to this day, along with our next door neighbours at Point McKay.

The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation for the wonderful care at the Bow View Manor; especially the second floor staff. We also wish to extend our appreciation to McInnis & Holloway Funeral Home for their wonderful support.

A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 3:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through
