January 29, 1927 – August 12, 2012

On Sunday, August 12, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer, Hilda passed away peacefully at the age of 85 years.

Hilda never complained about her difficult journey of recent years and her continuous smile plus happy and infectious demeanor will be missed by us all. Treasuring her memory are her husband Clary; her daughter Carolyne (Curtiss) of Sherwood Park and son Allan of Red Deer. She also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren Marcy, Kimberly, Stephen, and Lesley and three great grandchildren; a niece Linda, sister-in-law Dorothy and her family and in addition to many other friends and relatives. Hilda was predeceased by her parents and a sister.

Hilda was born on January 29, 1927 and raised and lived her entire life in Calgary. She completed her school at Western Canada High School and married Clary on June 8, 1946. For many years she worked in the “Hudson’s Bay” store in downtown Calgary, and enjoyed travelling and camping with her family and close friends in her time off. Hilda especially enjoyed attending community events like the Stampede Parade, and never missed a parade over 85 years (helped by her mother in her childhood years!) until the last 2012 parade when she was too ill to attend in person. She also loved sewing, knitting and quilting, and spent many happy hours as a member of the Needlework Guild.

Funeral Service will be held at St. Stephens Anglican Church, (1121-14 Avenue S.W., Calgary) on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Southwood Hospice, 211 Heritage Drive S.E., Calgary, AB, T2H 1M9. The family would like to express its great appreciation to the Southwood Hospice for the support and loving care provided to Hilda and the family during her illness.
