MILLS, Robert Sheldon

September 19, 1962 – November 23, 2012

Robert Sheldon Mills passed away while on vacation in Bonaire on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the age of 50 years.

Rob was born on September 19, 1962 in North Battleford, SK to Wendell & Lynda Mills. A short time later, he was able to take on the title of “Big Brother” when his sister Deb arrived. He grew up in both Lethbridge and Pincher Creek, graduating with the Class of 1980 Matthew Halton Community School. Rob worked at Coca Cola for almost thirty years starting as a swamper, to his final position as the Calgary Service Supervisor. He was very proud that his family was a part of the Soft Drink Industry since the early 1900’s. Rob met his true soul mate September and was married in July 1998. In 1999, they were introduced to the amazing adventures of diving. This love of travel and diving took Rob & September all over the world. Some of the most exciting places they visited were the Red Sea, Egypt, Cuba, Turks & Caicos, Belize, Costa Rica, Cocos Island, Paris, France, Cayman Island, Jamaica, New York City, and Vancouver Island. Rob & September‘s dive group have the distinction of being the first ever night divers in Antarctica, March 2012. September and family invite you to visit the “Rob Mills Memories” page on Facebook so you can share your favorite memories of Rob.

Rob is survived by his soul mate September and his furry boys Teddy and Hudson; his girls; Katelynn and Ashley from his first marriage. He also leaves behind, his mother Lynda Enns; his father Wendell (Janet) Mills; sister Deb (Mark) Ambrosi and Kyle, Kevin, Jordan and Jodi; step-brother Derek (Maria) and Shailyn, Kayla; father and mother-in-law Larry & Judy Swerid; brother-in-law Darren (Julia) Swerid; his God parents; Joy & Myron Kirik, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from both families. He will be sorely missed by his Diving Community friends, his friends from SCA, Train Club Friends, and all his friends and colleagues from Coca Cola. Rob was predeceased by his beloved grandfathers; William Mills and Elliott Coates; grandmothers Doris Mills and Lillian Coates; step-father Peter Enns; and uncle Ray Coates. We also wanted to mention Rob & September’s much loved Grandparents Lillian & Charles Gibbens.

A Celebration of Rob’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. As long time divers and as members of the SCA we just want to pass on our condolences and heartfelt sorrow at the news of Rob’s passing. Though life’s journey had seperated us by distance and years he was never far from our thoughts, his smile, his humour, his passion for life were always an inspiration. We will always remember him with love and joy and think of him often as we dawn helmets and masks and pursue our own adventures in life. Fair winds until we meet again. Will, Carole and Irene

  11. Its so difficult to find the right thing to say in a time like this. I got to know Rob as a classmate in high school. He was a smart guy!.. well-liked and respected, as he provided the same back to whoever he met. Always provided a friendly smile. I was glad to re-connect with him in the past few years, and happy he hadn’t changed at all as a person. His life was always full of adventure, exploring, and learning. From it, it has set an example for many to go out and see what’s out there waiting to be discovered. May his memories keep us content- that we had the chance to be part of his past, his success story. My condolences go to his family, and the many friends Rob accumulated in his lifetime. Take care. Bruce Elliott

    Dearest September and family,
We join with so many others who knew Rob in offering our deepest sympathy on his passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction to know that in his passing you can celebrate the end of a very productive life. The measure of a life well-lived is not in how much money one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives they touched and the sorrow they leave behind. If the outpouring of sympathy on his loss is any indication, and it most certainly is, you can proudly and confidently say that his indeed was a life well-lived. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and loved him.
    In Sympathy,
    Greg and Leigh-Ann McCuaig
