MILLIKIN, John Cameron – Honourary Consul General, Ireland

November 20, 1932- Dublin, Ireland
June 28, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Cameron (JC) Millikin, 80 of Calgary passed away on Friday, June 28.

Born in Dublin, Ireland to John and Olive Millikin, November 20, 1932. Cameron graduated from Trinity College Dublin. In 1963 he married the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Susan Patricia Millikin, in Calgary.

After arriving in Canada in 1956, Cameron worked his way from the oil derricks in Northern Canada to the corporate offices in Calgary. Widely respected in a broad range of circles (rugby, rowing, business and politics), Cameron spent years working for the Canadian government at home and abroad, most notably his years on the ground in Ireland working towards the N. Ireland Peace Agreement. He had recently retired his final post as Canadian Honourary Consul General to Ireland. He passed away on a flight home to Calgary from Ireland, his heart halfway between the two places he loved.

He is survived by his wife Susan; three sons (Rory, Craig and John); and five grandchildren (Sophia, Jack, Georgia, Julia, and London). He was deeply loved by all and will be sorely missed.

Memorial Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) Calgary, on Friday July 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre, www.thedi.ca.

In living memory of Cameron Millikin, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Thinking of Cameron’s Family and Friends on this very sad occasion. I harbor very fond memories of Cameron from my earliest days in Calgary playing for The Saints, through The Ireland Fund of Canada and on to more recent times and events at The Irish Cultural Centre.
He was a man above men in both stature and personality.
May he Rest in Peace and may Peace be with all of you in this very difficult time.

Hello Sue, John, and Millican family,

We are sorry to hear about the sudden death of Cameron. We just heard about it on Friday as we attended a wedding in Canmore. How poignant that he left his heart between the two places he loved. We will miss seeing him on the rowing machine at the Glencoe workout room. Please accept our condolences.

  4. Jacqueline Dolan :

I am deeply saddened to learn via Richard, of Cameron’s sudden death, r.i.p.
Because of Cameron’s meeting with Mr. Ivor Petrak, I got the fabulous job of Resident Harpist and Singer at the Fairmont Banff Springs, in 1975! Every trip to Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, he used to sit on our front steps in the middle on Nenagh(all 6ft 4″)just to soak up the town, my Mum used to love his visits, my Dad used to mumble “they,re all mad in Canada! Cameron, thank-you,because of you, I’m here in my mountain home Banff, performing all over and still at the Fairmont for special events.
    Dearest Sue and boys,
My deepest sympathy to you amd the boys,
    Jacqueline Dolan.
