MILES, Bruce MacKinnon

February 21, 1933- High River, AB
October 18, 2013 – Calgary, AB

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Bruce Miles on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the age of 80 years after a courageous cancer battle.

He was much loved and will be deeply missed by his wife Carol, sons Stephen, Michael (Kim), and Peter (Renee), grandchildren Graydon, Jacqueline, Brooklyn and Parker.

He is survived by his brother Graydon Elder (Nan, Graydon jr.) and four cousins Dana Morkeberg , Lois Novikoff , Val Osborne, and Adele Beitz. Also, by Sandra Elkins and many other family members that were an important part of his life.

Bruce was born in High River, Alberta in which the town and friends there, forever, held a special place in his life and heart, and will be his final resting place. Bruce graduated as a Petroleum Engineer from the Colorado School of Mines in 1956 and started his career with Marathon Oil and Gas, and later went on to work in the Oil and Gas investment Banking Dep’t at the Bank of Montreal before venturing out to establish several of his own companies and joint ventures. Bruce had many close long- time friends and was known to have a wonderful sense of humour, which continued on even when he was in the throes of fighting the disease.

However, above all else, his family is what mattered most. He was so proud of his sons and daughters-in-law and the arrival of grandchildren gave him overwhelming joy.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Palliative Care Team and Nurse Donna Dyer for their care and concern for Bruce, and to the many family members and friends who have showed us overwhelming love and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive SW Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 28: 2:00 pm. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre or Town of High River Disaster Relief Fund, through any RBC Branch. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Bruce Miles, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  11. Graydon Miles (Jr) :

Though geography has kept us from spending much time together, I will always cherish the visits that we had over the years. Coming out with the family to Morgan’s Pub to support his nephew’s touring band in the summer of 1998. Welcoming Sarah and me for a couple of days the following year and then again when we came out for Pete and Renee’s wedding. Uncle Bruce was especially thrilled to meet little Alli and I knew he was soon going to be one heck of a grandfather. We were also fortunate to spend a wonderful bit of time with both he and Aunt Carol as they visited us in the East. This was also the last time that he and his brother (my dad) had a chance to catch up in person, and it was great to be a part of that. Uncle Bruce’s welcoming warmth, his storytelling, and his obvious passion for his family (along with that deep Miles voice) will stay with me forever.

Take care of yourselves and cherish every moment and every memory.

    Love to all of you.
    Graydon, Sarah, and Alli
