MIHALCHEON, George Edward

March 10, 1929 – October 22, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend George Mihalcheon at the age of 82.
George was born in Edmonton and grew up near Hairy Hill, Alberta. Where he lovingly teased his five sisters and enjoyed all the adventures a farm boy could experience. George attended the University of Alberta and revelled in summer work at Yoho National Park. In 1952, he married his one true love Bea, a love affair that has lasted over fifty-nine years. A gentle, loving father, friend and business mentor, he moved to Medicine Hat where he raised his family and was Plant Manager for Western Co-op Fertilizer, later transferring to Calgary to assume the position of Senior Vice-President. Prior to his retirement he was able to further share his business acumen and critical thinking skills in the capacity of Management Consultant. Among his many talents and interests, George loved to travel, compete at bridge and curling and create exquisite works of stained glass that will forever grace the homes of family and friends. He never relinquished his selfless love of family and sense of humour while battling illness.
George is survived by his wife Bea, his sons Kevin (Diane) and Garth (Dr. Donna Wachowich) and his cherished granddaughter Alysse (Jordan Tailfeathers).

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd. N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 Telephone: (403) 205-3966, email

We will celebrate George’s life on Thursday, October 27th at Christ Moravian Church, 600 Acadia Drive S.E., Calgary at 2:00 PM (

  1. Lucille Bailey :

So sorry for your loss Bea. George was a good man, a good friend, and a great boss. I thoroughly enjoyed working for him at the WCFL plant in Medicine Hat. Please accept my condolences and, as one who has been through such a loss, I can tell you the pain never goes away, but it does get tolerable with time and the retention of good memories.
My sincere sympathies to you and your family.

  5. Dear Bea and family,

John and I were very sorry to hear the sad news of George’s passing.

He was a very fine man and a real gentleman. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was a lot of fun to be around. I know he was very proud of his family and it must have given him a lot of happiness to see the boys he loved so much turn out so well.

I know you will all miss him very much and John and I want you to know that you are in our thoughts at this time and that you have our deepest sympathy.
