MICHELL, Thelma Hilda (nee Campbell)

December 14, 1923 – Trochu, AB
July 8, 2014 – Calgary, AB

It is with sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our sweet Mother Thelma Hilda Michell at Carewest Garrison Green, Calgary on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the age of 90 years.

Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Shelly Jones, Jill (Don) Vandezande, and Edward Michell; brother-in-law David Michell and sister-in-law Margret Sales, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Mom’s greatest joys were her three grandchildren, Jennifer and James, and Sarah as well as two great grandchildren, twins Christian and Nicholas. Thelma was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward William (Bill) Michell; second husband Vince Rydl; parents Allan and Hilda Campbell, brothers Allan and Duncan Campbell; numerous brother and sister-in-laws; plus son-in-law Ken Jones.

Mom was an active spirit and outgoing personality, yet a gentle soul. She will always be remembered for her strength, her perseverance, and conviction to her family and so many wonderful friends. Having been diagnosed with dementia the last three years, Mom still had a great sense of humour with her contagious laugh, a beautiful smile, exceedingly generous and caring nature. She was a true life long friend to many, particularly friends within her Parkdale Nifty Fifty Seniors group, which she was a life time member. Mom was known for planning the various parties and community events within the club enjoyed by many over the years. She was a member of the UCW at Parkdale United Church for over 50 years. Mom’s was a life well lived. She loved to travel the world, meeting new people and experiencing all the adventures and travel the unknown path down this road or that just to see where it took her. She worked hard, led by example and laughed a lot. Her genial nature, gracious manner and kind heart will certainly be missed by those she loved. Mom always said that her bucket list had been fulfilled in the living of her daily life. Thelma was a gentle soul whose faith in Jesus was expressed in her warm and trusting relationship with everyone she knew. Always so graciously thankful for all the blessings in life with family and friends and the wonderful experiences in life that she had, and always having a positive outlook and caring personality. Family members wish to express appreciation for the care and kindness extended to Thelma by the staff at Garrison Green, Dr. Watson, her companions Marilyn, Michele, Colleen and Carol-Lyne and many other friends.

Memorial Service will be held at PARKDALE UNITED CHURCH (2919 – 8th Avenue N.W. Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Thelma’s family through info@mhfh.com. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to Calgary Health Trust in support of Carewest Garrison Green at Calgary Health Trust 800, 11012 Macleod Trail SE Calgary, AB T2J 6A5.
