MESSER, Eleanor June

August 9, 1963 – Calgary, AB
January 20, 2015 – Calgary, AB

Eleanor Messer quietly passed away at her Calgary home on January 20, 2015 with the love and support of her beloved husband Bill and sons Jackson and Christopher at her side.

Eleanor was only 51 years of age and much-loved by those who had the opportunity to know her. Despite being an accomplished lawyer Eleanor worked tirelessly and selflessly raising her two boys Jackson and Christopher. Family was all-important to Eleanor and she took great pride in the success of her children. Eleanor graduated from the University of Alberta with degrees in Science, Physical Education and Law. Eleanor met Bill Messer of Tisdale, Saskatchewan while attending law school in Cardiff, Wales. Eleanor was called to the Alberta Bar following which she married Bill in June of 1991 and they moved to the Cayman Islands where she was called to the Cayman Islands Bar and they started building their life and raising their family together.

Eleanor was an especially skilled down-hill skier and water skier also enjoying scuba diving. Eleanor loved spending her summers as a little girl at the Reid family cottage on Mabel Lake in the Okanagan where she made many life long friends and enjoyed fishing for salmon. Eleanor was thrilled to share the magic of Mabel Lake with Jackson and Christopher enjoying watching them also grow up spending their summers on Mabel.

Eleanor will be tremendously missed and is survived by her husband Bill and their two sons Jackson and Christopher; mother Margaret Reid; sister Barbara (David) Campbell; brother Jim; sister-in-law Shirley Reid; father and mother-in-law Jack and Joanne Messer; sister-in-law Annette (Schreader); brother-in-law Doug; brother-in-law Michael (Carmen); fourteen nieces and nephews; two great-nephews and a great-niece with a wide circle of friends across Canada, the Cayman Islands and beyond. Vibrant, kind-hearted and generous Eleanor will forever be remembered by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her father James Reid.

A Celebration of Eleanor’s Life will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Words just cannot describe our profound sadness at Eleanor’s passing. She was a trooper, to say the least – which reflected her love of life and commitment to her family. We only found out today, January 27, 2015, or would have been there for you all and to honour Ele. PLEASE KNOW that you can rely on us at ANY TIME. Jackson and Christropher – This will be a tough time for you but I know you will get through this as I did in my teens when my mom died. You will have the love and support of your dad and he will have you. You can get through this all together and that is what your mom would want. We love you all.. Bev, Tom and Jack Simpson
