Maria Melnyk of Calgary passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
Maria was born April 10, 1927 in the village of Lanczyn, Ukraine. She came to Canada in 1950 with her husband Theodor and they settled in Calgary. Maria was a loving wife and mother who devoted herself to caring for her family. She enjoyed baking and gardening and took great pride in her work. Maria was an active member to the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League and Church. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her and will always be remembered a s a warm, kind beautiful person.
Maria is survived by her children, Ann (Jacques) Rioux, Irene Melnyk, and Peter Melnyk (Christina – Derek and Jennifer), all of Calgary; as well as three grandsons, Robert, Michael and Dallas; and one great-grandson, Deklan. She will also be remembered by her niece Marie Russo and her family and her nephew Jozef Fiolek. She was predeceased by her husband Theodor in March 2007.
