McVety, Mable Iola

 Mable Iola McVety passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the age of 99 years.  Mable was a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, though she spent a major part of her  life doing volunteer work;  twenty five years  with Red Cross in the Blood donors Clinic; thirty years with the Colonel Belcher Hospital; and fifteen years with the Women’s Shelter. She was also a strong supporter in politics with a membership in the Progressive Conservatives Party for fifty years. Mable felt her greatest accomplishment was that she was instrumental in John George Diefenbaker’s election to office. Mable was also an active member of Christ Church Anglican on Elbow Park for fifty years.  Mable is survived by daughter Leslie (James Terrence) Thomson; two grandchildren Christina Martensson (Mats) of Calgary and Noël Thomson with fiancée Greg Clarence of Oakville, ON;  four great-grandchildren Kirsten Mortenson and fiancée Chris Irwin of Red Deer, Nicolaus Mortenson of Red Deer, Sarah Martensson, and Aaron Martensson of Calgary; and great-great-grandchild Kayden Bruce. She is also survived by nephews Leigh (Amanda) Sterling of England and Peter Strand Rumpel with partner Kim of Calgary. She was predeceased by spouse George Lorne McVety; and identical twin Anne E. Macey (nee Stokes). Mable was the last surviving sibling of her immediate family.  Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 2:00 pm.
