February 21, 1924 – April 6, 2012
Born in Saltcoats, Sask, on February, 21, 1924, Oliver Livingstone McNichol was called to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, April 6, 2012. He firmly believed that for him to be “absent from the body” was to be “present with the Lord.”
Oliver will be lovingly remembered by Edna, his beloved wife for sixty-two years; his children, Ross (Janice) McNichol, Marcia (Vic) Rempel, Douglas (Jan) McNichol, and Catherine (Grant) Hunter; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Ruth Lawrence, Doreen McNichol and Helen Hagen, all of Calgary. Oliver was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Martin and Una Little.
In 1950, Oliver was one of the founding members of Bethany Chapel of Calgary, and served with that congregation for many years as an elder, shepherd and teacher. He was a founding member of Camp Okotoks for children. He enjoyed membership with Gideons International, giving out God’s Word. Oliver served in the RCAF in WW II in Canada, India and Burma and held lifetime memberships in the 435/436 Burma Squadrons Association and the Burma Star Association, where he served as Padre for the past eight years; he had his last meeting with his friends there on Tuesday, April 3. His career included twenty-five years in accounting, financial and general management, followed by twenty years in commercial real estate sales and land assembly.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bethany Chapel (3333 Richardson Way S.W.) on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
