McNEELY, William “Bill” Murray

February 24, 1931 – Charlottetown, PEI
March 12, 2015 – Calgary, AB

Bill McNeely of Calgary passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the age of 84 years.

Bill was born in Charlottetown P.E.I., attended St. Dunstan’s College (1952, BA) and St. Francis Xavier University (1954, BSc Geology). Moving west he worked the emerging oilfields of North America for the next 40 years. Service with many companies included California Standard Oil, Uno-Tex Petroleum, Central Del Rio Oil, and 17 years with West Coast Petroleum completed his fulfilling career. Bill was involved in the Canadian Oil Scouts Association, and served as President in 1990 and became an Honorary Lifetime Member in 1998. He retired on January 31, 1993.

He was involved in his community and served as President of Canadian Martyrs Parish Council (1970), VP of Northwest Little League Baseball (1980), coached and administered youth sport at Triwood Community. He was always available to lend a hand to better the community. In 2000, after 40 years of faithful service to the Knights of Columbus he was bestowed with an Honorary Life Membership Award.

Bill is survived by four children, Greg, David (Tricia), Joni and Gordon (Carlijn); seven grandchildren, Shea, Carlyn, Alayna, Michael, Christopher, Amber and Kayla. He is also survived by his sister Lorraine Ellsworth of Halifax N.S.; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was especially fond of his nephew Bill Ellsworth (Linda). Bill was predeceased by his father Murray McNeely in 1940; his mother Anne Lefort in 1986; and his sister Kaye “M Kathleen” O’Shea in 1996.

A private family gathering to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at a later date with interment in his beloved P.E.I. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
