McLeod, Louise Joan (nee Cawsey)

June 20, 1950 – September 16, 2011

Louise Joan McLeod beloved wife of Rod of Calgary, passed away as she lived her life, with dignity and grace at the Southwood Hospice with family and friends by her side following a nine month battle with cancer on Friday, September 16, 2011 at the age of 61 years.

Louise was born in Regina, SK as the only daughter of Bob and Lillas Cawsey. Louise lived an exciting life. Her earlier days saw her at school in Regina, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Edmonton before moving to Calgary in 1970. Louise worked at BMO Bank of Montreal throughout most of her working career. The consummate mother, she preferred the life of a stay-at-home mom while raising her sons – a decision that paid off in spades! Once the boys were in high school, she returned to work, briefly at Michaels, then back to the more familiar surroundings of BMO. She will be fondly remembered for her positive attitude, bright smile and effervescent personality.

Besides her loving husband Rod, Louise is survived by her sons Iain and Grady; as well as by Bailey the wonder dog, all of Calgary.

A Celebration of Louise’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (866) 412-4222. The more we can do to beat this nasty disease, the better!

In living memory of Louise McLeod, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

Condolence Messages

  1. Dear Rod; I am so sorry to hear about Louise. We hadn’t seen each other for quite awhile – after we had each stopped working at Michaels and started at different jobs, it was hard to keep in touch. Louise had a great sense of humour, an infectious laugh and she made the Michael’s framing department a much more pleasant environment. We shared a lot of jokes, laughed over the antics of our children – I’ll never forget her description of the snowwman’s appendage that Iain and Grady graced your front yard with after an exceptionally heavy spring snowfall – and commiserated over the trials of being a Michaels’ employee! I know she loved her family very much and would do anything for them. It was an honour to have known her – she was a wonderful person. May all your happy memories of your life together help you, Iain and Grady through this time of sorrow.

  2. J-P. Fournier & Sharon Busby :

Dear Rod, Iain, Grady & Bailey the wonder dog

It gave me tremendous peace to have been able to see Louise the day before she left us. Her face was still full of that incredible beauty and joy which gave all of us such a fullness of life whenever we were in her company. It is that joy and fullness of humanity which I think most of us will take with us every time we think of her.
When I drove back to Edmonton that night, I was energized from having seen her smile and felt the warmth of her tender and loving humanity, which is also flowing through the other precious half of the oneness that was / is Rod and Louise. She is at rest, and we are all blessed , and better because of her passing through our lives.

Our prayers and thoughts remain with you,
    Sharon & J-P.

    To Rod and Family

My heartfelt sympathy to you all on the passing of Louise.

I remember with fondness how Louise and you were our gracious tour guides when my dear departed father (Ian MacDonald, Isle of Lewis connection) and I visited Canada back in the late 1980s. I have precious photos of that day to refer to.

Thinking of you at this sad time,

We stayed with you during our Canadian holiday in the 80’s and witnessed for ourselves Louise’s wonderful qualities in being a loving wife, a devoted mother and a cherished daughter. She was so very highly efficient and was a perfect hostess.

  11. To The MacLeod Family,

I am so sorry to hear about Wheezy Louise! She was the only reason life was bearable at Michael’s and is one of the sweetest, kind, loving and great women I’ve ever known. It was so awesome to run into her months ago at BMO. She often spoke of all her boys. One of the greatest gals of all time. My thoughts are with you all. Xoxoxo
