January 1, 1918 – Chauvin, Alberta
December 8, 2013 – Calgary, Alberta
Our family sadly announces the passing of our Mom, Alice McLeod, on Sunday, December 8 2013 just short of her 96th birthday. Mom was so proud to have been born a New Year’s Baby in Chauvin, Alberta.
Mom was always a “stay at home mom” looking after her family, spending hours in the yard planting and waiting for things to grow, and enjoying summers at the cottage in Sylvan Lake. She was an active Calgary Public Library book lover, reading voraciously on a wide variety topics.
Surviving a stroke in 1999 slowed her down and eventually she moved from her house to make a new home at the Beverly Centre, Midnapore.
Alice is survived by her son Don McLeod (Danna); daughter Lynne Thompson (Rick); and her grandchildren, Kristy Thompson (Aric), Joanne Thompson (John) and Josh McLeod (Astrid). Mom was predeceased by her husband of forty-nine years, Archie McLeod (1994); her youngest granddaughter Laine McLeod (1999); her brothers Dixon and Stuart; and her parents.
At Mom’s request there will be no service. A private interment will be held at a later date at the family plot in Burnsland Cemetery, Calgary. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to a charity of your choice. Our family gives sincere gratitude and thanks to her caregivers on Bridlewood unit of the Beverly Centre for the excellent and loving care given to our Mom during the last years.
In living memory of Alice McLeod, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.Print This Obituary & Condolences
