MCLELLAN, June Barbara

May 1, 1930 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
August 1, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

June McLellan, of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the age of 87.

June was the social centre of both her large family and the community at the Sierras of Richmond Hill. We have many cherished memories of family gatherings at the house on 42nd street. She was known as “one of the girls” by more people than most of us will ever meet, and as the momentum behind many legendary tea socials, dinner events, fashion shows and costume parties.

June was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and was a high achiever at Nutana Collegiate and Robertson College in Saskatoon. She had a close relationship with her brother Bob, as they grew up together in the 1930s, and for her whole life she carried the dry wit and pragmatic spirit of a person born in those modest years. In 1954, June married her beloved Don and they moved to Calgary, establishing a 60-year (and counting) tradition of family excursions across the prairies. She will be remembered and missed at many weddings and reunions to come.

June is remembered lovingly by her brother Bob, daughter Maureen, son Don (Carolyn), grandchildren Kevin (Fiona), Brian (Jessica), Sherri (Kam), Karin (Steve), great-grandchildren Isaac, Keira, Malcolm, Adam and Kainan, cousins Barb (Herb), Margaret (Kevin), Gail and Gordon (Gwen), sisters-in-law Sharon and Marilyn, and brother-in-law Larry. June was very close to her niece Sharlene (Blair) and family and loved all 11 of her nieces, nephews and their families dearly. She was also loved by many best friends, neighbours and bridge partners.

June was predeceased by her husband Don, mother Verna, uncles Vince (Alice), Archie (Edna) and Alex (Beryle), niece Lindsay, nephew Doug, brothers-in-law Lloyd and Dave, and sister-in-law Joyce.

June’s family would like to thank Dr. George Vitali, Dr. Matthew Henschke, and the wonderful staff of AgeCare Seton (especially Jane and Joyce) for their care of June in her final years. Rather than a funeral, she wished for her family and friends to remember her as she lived. Please make any memorial donations in her name to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Goodbye, Grandma June. We love you.
