June 21, 1930 – June 1, 2012
Mom’s early years were spent growing up in Winnipeg with her Mother, Father and 2 sisters. Her Father, a pilot, was killed during WWII in a tragic plane crash during a training exercise when she was 10 years old. She missed him deeply her entire life.
Life was not easy for Mom but she persevered and became a strong, determined and kind woman who “paid it forward” whenever she had an opportunity. She was the Mom that all our friends went to when they needed advice, the Mom that everyone else wanted as theirs.
Mom lost her husband and best friend Roy in 2006, which marked the beginning of her physical decline. Daughter-in-law Kay, stepdaughter Gail and son-in-law Jim predecease Mom.
We, her children, can never thank her enough for the strength she showed us and the guidance she gave us. We hope that she knew how many people she touched and how much she was loved by so many.
Missing her deeply – Children: Andrew McCann, Judi Smith, Doug McCann (Michele), Thom McCann and Gordon McCann (Linda). Stepdaughters: Carol Villemaire and Donna MacIvor and families. Grandchildren: Kris, Casey, Tyler, Cass, David and Jeffrey. Great Grandchildren: Chelsea, Jordan, Dakota, Alexis and Max. Sisters: Shirley Alexander and Mary Ellen Will and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Diane Brunka, Mom’s niece, who gave so much time and took such care the last months of Mom’s life.
Thank you to the staff – who went above and beyond – and residents of Rockyview Lodge in Crossfield where Mom spent many comfortable years and the amazing staff of Rockyview General Hospital Palliative Care for their compassion and kindness – Mom’s passing was as gentle and comfortable as possible with your care.
We miss you Mom.
Mom requested that a service not be held but that her ashes be scattered in the future.
If so desired, donations can be made in her name to your local SPCA or the Royal Canadian Legion – two organizations that were very important to her.Print This Obituary & Condolences
