McKAY, Elizabeth Twigg Bleakley (nee Renfrew)

February 8, 1938 – Renfrew, Scotland
August 6, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Elizabeth (Betty) of High River, AB passed away peacefully at Calgary South Health Campus after a sudden illness, surrounded by her loving family on the morning of Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the age of 75 years.

Elizabeth was born in Renfrew, Renfrewshire, Scotland to parents Robert Renfrew (1892 – 1941) and Elizabeth Twigg Bleakley (1896 – 1989). Elizabeth arrived in Canada in March 1949, aboard the RMS Aquitania and resided in Toronto, ON, where she met the love of her lifetime, Stewart Andrew McKay (1936-2005). They were married October 25, 1958 and resided in Toronto, Kitchener, Ottawa, Calgary, Burnaby, and finally High River.

Elizabeth was selfless in nature, witty, loving, and will be greatly missed by her children Stewart (Christine), Geoffrey (Lovela), and Joanne Robertson (Gordon); loving grandchildren Jaime, Jessica, Kylie, Brendon, and Andrew; sister Margaret Loucks (Scarborough, ON), and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings Robert, Mamie, Rachael, Martha, Winifred and Ernie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Samaritan’s Purse Canada, 20 Hopewell Way N.E., Calgary, AB T3J 5H5 Telephone 1(800) 663-6500 who so graciously assisted our Mother and so many others during the clean-up efforts in High River. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Unit 68, and the ICU for the exemplary care and attention given to our beautiful Mother, and the compassion extended to our family.
