McKAY, Adrienne Isabel (nee Mitchell)

November 3, 1928 – Medicine Hat, Alberta
May 13, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Adrienne McKay, beloved wife of Grant McKay of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the age of 85 years.

Adrienne or “Ad” as she was known to many, was born in Medicine Hat and settled in Calgary, where she graduated nursing school in 1950 and married her high school sweetheart Grant George McKay. With her loving husband of 63 years, Ad raised two sons, and later inspired the passions of 3 granddaughters. Ad will be remembered by many for her sharp wit, graceful smile, her passion for painting and her deep love of her family. She often remarked how much she enjoyed getaways to Kananaskis, family dinners and those “just because” visits from numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her loving husband of sixty-three years, Adrienne is survived by two sons Tom and his fiancé Jennifer Herzog and Keith and his wife Sherry; three grandchildren Christina Berlanda (Renato), Taryn McKay (Tony Shkuda) and Devan McKay and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Jeanette “Sam” Campbell, brother-in-law Harry Campbell and her daughter in law Cheryl McKay.

A Celebration of Ad’s Life will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Ad and Grant’s home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Adrienne’s name to the School of Nursing, University of Calgary. Thank-you to all of her caregivers at The Beverley Centre (Midnapore) and Unit 68 South Health Campus – you are appreciated.

In living memory of Adrienne McKay, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.
