MCGOWAN, Harry

Harry beloved husband of Ida McGowan (nee Barker) of Calgary, AB, passed away on March 25, 2014 at the age of 85 years.

Harry was born in Salford, U.K. He met and married his wife, Ida, and they raised their family in England until immigrating to Canada in 1989. While in the U.K., Ida and Harry ran a children’s home for 10 years. Once in Canada, Harry worked at the Calgary International Airport for 10 years. He could fix anything, a real handyman. Some of his favorite things included many vacations in the camper van; his tools; music; gardening; the mountains; handing out “sweets” to everyone he met; and being a fantastic Husband, Dad, Granddad, “Pops”, Great Granddad and friend to all.

Besides his loving wife of 64 years, Harry is lovingly remembered by his children, Stephen and Lorraine; grandchildren, Claire, Megan and Craig; great grandchild, Lucas; son-in-law, Martin; daughter-in-law, Elaine; grandsons-in-law, Jonathan and Graeme; and numerous nieces and nephews, who fondly remember him as “Uncle Harry”. He was predeceased by his mother, Florence; father, William, and sisters, Florence and Marjorie.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.   6. My Dad was not a materialistic man, however apart from my Mum and his Family who he adored, he loved his car and his DIY tools. He never wanted to be a Wealthy man but was the Richest man I knew. He had Riches beyond belief in that people loved him too bits. From young children to senior citizens they loved him in bucketfulls. Why was that. Because he listened to everyone and gave them the most precious gift of all ‘time’. He would give you anything he had no matter what. A special Man who I’m proud to call my Dad.
