March 26, 2014 – Okotoks, AB

Matthew “Matt” Nicholas McGinnis beloved husband of Tanya of Okotoks, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the young age of 49 years.

Matt was born to Clive and Marjorie Parke in Toronto, ON. He became the adopted son of John McGinnis when he married Marjorie in 1970. His second marriage was to Tanya McCorry on December 2, 2003, celebrated in Mexico, and they have since lived mainly in Okotoks. Matt has worked several years with the Child Services branch of the Alberta Government. He has been a wonderful son, husband, father, friend, and great human being with compassion, honesty and good humour. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Besides his loving wife Tanya, he is survived by a son Connor (17 years) and twin daughters Isibeal and Rowyn (5 years). He was predeceased by his sister Adrienne (1960-1990).

Dear Marjorie, John, Tanya, Connor, Rowyn and Isibeal,
No words can ever express your insurmountable loss of Matthew. As you grieve, cling to others who loved him as you do, or who may only know you, and allow them to hold your hands and your hearts and guide you through your pain. All your lives are better for having shared some of it with Matthew and his memory will live on forever in you. He would want you to go on living your lives with joy and success in honour of his own too-short life.
I am holding your hearts to mine
    All my love

Dear Tanya, Connor, Rowyn, Isibeal, John and Marjorie,
Words can never express how we feel for the loss of Matt…Tanya, your partner and best friend, we knew what he meant to you and his children. I watched him with them and he was a very proud father. John and Marjorie, when I’d go down and stay at their house with Debbie he had some good stories, all told with humor and love…he will be missed. I will miss our long chats we would get into, so thought provoking. I’d return home and get on my laptop to figure out everything we talked about or to get a better understanding of a topic…Matt, I’ll miss you…Tanya, you know we will always be there for you and the girls…We Love You. xoxo Auntie Peggy and Uncle Don

  26. My heart is deeply saddened. I worked with Matt for a few years. My office landed in front of his and of course the quiet shy guy did not take long to sit and chat with me. He spoke of his wife and children all the time. He loved them and was so proud of them. I remember him being very intelligent, well spoken, wise, genuine, kind. I saw Matt recently at a training session for work and of course smiled and chatted briefly. Thank you, Matt, for our chats! You are a good man. My deepest condolences to you, Tanya, and your family.

    Dear Tanya & Family,
I worked with Matt a couple of years ago and am devastated to hear of his passing. He was very fun to work with. I remember having such great conversations with him, lots of laughs, and even snuck in a few pranks on co-workers when we could. He had a very gentle spirit and calmness about him. I worked with him when the girls were born, and he was so overjoyed when they arrived. It was obvious how much he loved his wife and children. I am so sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with all of you at this time.

    To Matt’s family:

I did my delegation training with Matt at Children’s Services a few years ago, and then leadership training with him a couple of years ago. I really liked him and i found him to be a very funny and genuine man. He was a big man with a big heart. He talked about his family and about skiing and being outdoors. He had a great sense of humor and he was very compassionate in his work. I am really saddened by his loss and I will miss him. I pray that God will bring you comfort through this hard time.

I worked with Matt in the summer of 2012. Though a short time, I found Matt a warm, genuine, helpful, humorous person. He was very proud of his family and children. I know he had a big heart for people. We shared the joys of being parents, the ups and downs of life.

Please accept our sincerest condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if there is anything we can do for you.
