He is lovingly remembered by his mother Darlene McCorrister (Strathmore, AB), father Barrie McCorrister (Clara) (Penticton, BC), sister Cheryl McCorrister (Strathmore, AB), brother Jason (Maria) McCorrister, (Brunei), in-laws David and June Barkhouse, (Antigonish, NS), sisters-in-law Krista (Patrick) McKenna (Antigonish, NS), Debra Barkhouse (Halifax, NS), brother-in-law Darren (Vivette) Barkhouse, (London, ON), along with nieces and nephews Carly Eadie (Rob) (Hanna, AB), Cayla Eadie (Calgary, AB), Nicholas McCorrister (Brunei), Abby, Katie and Liam McKenna, (Antigonish, NS), great-niece Penny Kittridge (Hanna, AB) and his extended family and friends.
Calvin was born in Calgary on June 4, 1974. He grew up in Cheadle, AB and was a very active yet accident-prone child who was kind, always championing the underdog. He graduated from Strathmore High School in 1992. He worked various positions on the rigs, deployed and retrieved seismic lines before becoming a skilled and well-respected finishing grader operator, working with various companies over the past 10 years. Calvin found true happiness with Amy, who stole his heart. They had many hopes and dreams for their family and were just starting to build their life together. The love they shared was evident to everyone who knew them. ‘Pa’ was a devoted, loving and active father who was fascinated by his children, squeezing in extra cuddles whenever he could. He showed an immense love from the moment he first held each of them. Calvin enjoyed teaching Connor how to fix things around the house and showing Lacey his fancy dance moves. He will be forever looking down and guiding them as they journey through life. His famous Sunday night family dinners will always be remembered.
Time spent with “the boys” – with or without Jack – was a meaningful and important part of his life, and a void will be felt amongst his close group of longstanding friends. His quick wit and sarcasm kept most everyone laughing. Calvin worked hard to provide for his family, often putting in 80+-hour workweeks without complaint. He took great pride in his job and enjoyed revisiting the roads he helped build. He was a known joker on the jobsite and kept his co-workers on their toes. Cal did not hesitate to help someone in need and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
