McCOMB – John (Jack)

McCOMB – John (Jack)
November 26, 1922 – November 7, 2010

John (Jack) McComb passed away peacefully at Rockyview General Hospital Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the age of 87 years.

Jack was a native Calgarian who took pride in Calgary’s history.  He completed the SAIT drafting program and travelled to Norman Wells, N.W.T. to begin his career in the oil industry. His career at  Husky Oil extended from 1948-1986.

World travel was important to Jack throughout his life.  His many adventures covered the globe. Jack’s true passion was motorcycles.  He participated in  the Calgary Motorcycle Club,  taking international trips and competing in hill-climbs.  He continued to ride until his early eighties. Jack was known as a generous gentleman who took great pride in his garden, enjoyed politics, photography, travel and was the guardian of the family history.  Family is grateful for his safeguarding this legacy.  Jack was a life-long learner, always interested in the latest invention or gadget.

Garrison Green Seniors Community was Jack’s last home.  He was very proud to say he was the first resident in the newly opened facility.  He will be missed by his friends who joined him for his four o’clock latte. Jack was pre-deceased by his loving parents, John Sr. and Ethel McComb.  He is survived by  family in Canada and the United States.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.  Graveside Service to follow at Union Cemetery. Condolence Messages

  1. Helen (McComb) Karn :

I was sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. Jack was the last remaining cousin of my Father (Edwin McComb). We had kept in touch over the years, always enjoying his Christmas letters, and always wishing we lived closer, as we live in Woodstock, Ontario. I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

  2. Uncle Jack will be sorrily missed. I will always fondly remember the hand written Birthday Cards and notes that came from Uncle Jack – and always written with a fountain pen! He was always pleasant and always making a joke. When we were younger, my brothers and I marveled at how tall he was and it wasn’t long before we too grew tall – I guess it is in the “genes”. He was technically my father’s uncle, as Jack was my grandmothers brother. We enjoyed many fun times together, either our trips to Calgary or his trips to BC. I am thankful to have known him.
    Rest in Peace Uncle Jack!

  3. Commemorating a True Gentlemen,
We join with you to commemorate the life of Jack. That familiar “Hellooo” was always a welcomed greeting. Jack’s appreciation and pride in “his” province of Alberta was greatly admired. His keen passion for innovation and new technology fueled a lifelong interest.
Whether updates on Olympic Park, The Stampede, Fort McMurray or a personal perspective on the status of “King Ralph”, Jack gratefully shared his thoughts and reflections with everyone.
Although our family resides great distances away, our hearts and thoughts share in this celebration commemorating “Jack” a true gentlemen.

Keep the rubber on the road forever!
    Love the Logan family,
    Woodstock, Ontario
    Seoul, Korea
