McBRIDE, Janis

1950 – 2013

Janis passed away peacefully on September 29, 2013 at home near Cochrane with loving husband Dave Semple by her side.

Caring and devoted grandmother to Sam, Ben and Lucianna McBride, Lincoln McBride Boyle, and Casen McBride. Adoring mother to Truper and Jennifer (Thiessen) McBride, Tyler McBride and Morgan McBride. Predeceased by parents Helen (Chapman) and James Eadie, brother Jim and sister Jennifer of London Ontario. Will be missed by her loving brother Jason Eadie, sister Sarah Eadie, Uncle George and Aunt Lorraine Chapman, as well as her nephews, grandniece, cousins and close friends. Will also be dearly missed by Dave’s mom and family.

Janis will always be remembered as a remarkable and gifted woman with diverse interests. Her loving, vibrant, energetic and kind-hearted spirit touched those around her both personally and professionally throughout her teaching career in the Cochrane area. Her genuine love for each and every student helped set them on a path for future success.

A Celebration of Janis’ Life will be held at the Links of Glen Eagles Golf Course (100 Glen Eagles Drive, Cochrane, AB) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday October 4, 2013. Janis would prefer colourful, casual dress.

In keeping with Janis’ love of teaching, and her fondness for animals, a donation to the Glenbow Elementary School’s outdoor physical education program or the Cochrane Humane Society will be most appreciated.

I did not know Janis well, but I remember fondly how she welcomed me, my daughters and their 2 babies to her home outside of Cochrane for a lovely afternoon. She and Dave were gracious welcoming hosts, and you could tell how much she loved her surroundings and her animals. My heart goes out to Truper, Tyler and Morgan at this time of loss. Dear Dave and Family,
We are very sorry for your loss. Janis will be missed beyond measure. I hope you know what a difference she made in so many young people’s minds, including our youngest daughter. Janis stepped in as a replacement teacher at Easter for a teacher who had been ailing most of the year. At that point our daughter was having a lot of difficulties with school and it was almost impossible to get her to go. After only two days she was smiling and excited to go to school because Mrs. McBride was there! And the year went great after that. Years later Janis would still ask about Lisa when we met and I know she was genuinely interested. A lovely, kind woman who may a world of difference to many. May that give you some solace at this very difficult time.

I just heard this news and couldn’t believe it could be true. Janis and I were in the same year at Westminster Secondary School in London and reconnected when a 35-year reunion was organized in 2004. We communicated after the passing of Jennifer last winter, who coincidentally shared a room in Victoria Hospital Palliative Care with my cousin, Liz Mann, who passed on March 31. I was so pleased to be in touch with Janis after so many years. She was always such a fun person and so kind and friendly. So this news has truly knocked me over and I want to say how deeply sorry I am and offer my deepest condolences to her husband, children and siblings who I didn’t know (I knew Jim, Janis and Jennifer at school) but who I know are missing her. My thoughts and prayers will continue to go out to you all.
