MCBETH, John

November 3, 1930 – August 9, 2017

John McBeth of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the age of 86 years. John was the only child of Edith Brown and Norman McBeth of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. John immigrated to Calgary with his young family in 1971 where he continued as a very well respected Mechanical Designer. Not only did John have a successful working career, he was an amazing friend and father.

John was involved in the design of heavy industrial processing plants and had a distinguished career as a Mechanical Designer. He made an impact with his knowledge and skill and made many life long friends along the way. Some of the companies John was employed with include Associated Engineering, Alsands, and Enersul (formerly Procor).

John loved golf and golf loved John. Like everything he did, John was consistently great at it! In more recent years, he enjoyed his walks in Glenmore Park and his twice daily visits to the gym in his condominium building, yes, twice daily!

John is survived by his daughters, Alison Verity (Rod) and Lisa McBeth (Clarence) all of Calgary. We often joked that Dad had more friends than his two daughters combined. He cherished his friends so much and they cherished him. Many, many thanks to all of those friends and to Brian and Jan, John and Sue, Martin and Pat, and Jocelyne and Wolf, thank-you for caring so much for our Dad – he was blessed. Alison and Lisa’s pets, Cass, Cub, Chester, Turbo and Tedley Lamar will miss their Grandpa so much.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Thank you to the doctors and nurses of unit 62 at the Foothills and to the lovely people at Southwood Hospice for caring for our Dad during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca.

In living memory of John McBeth, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

    Alison, Lisa,
You are so right that John had many friends and I’m so glad and privileged to have been one of them. I worked with John at most of the places you mentioned and he was always so practical and generous with his knowledge. This also extended to the golf course and I’m proud to say I had many memorable rounds with him. I will miss him greatly, we’ve lost a good one.
All our love and best wishes to you both, plus to your families
    John and Sue Barker

  9. Wolfgang Neuhoff :

for the last 25 years John has been a work mate in quite a number of firms, a golfing buddy on golf courses in Alberta, Quebec, in the US states of Washington and Montana, in Malaysia and Venezuela AND MOST OF ALL A SOUL MATE when ever we were together. No matter where and under what circumstances via phone or face to face I have enjoyed talking and simply being with the Eagle (as he was known to quite a number of his buddies). His dry sense of British humor has been a delight not only for me but for all who knew him. I sure will miss him for now but look forward to a future round of golf with him, “old Peter'” and our old friend Bill Delaney on the “other side”. Alison and Lisa, my thoughts are with you.
