McBEAN, Wilma (nee White)

August 29, 1929 – September 7, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. Wilma Kathleen McBean passed away peacefully Friday, September 7, 2012 at the age of 83 years young. At her side was the excellent staff at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary, the Bethany was Mom’s home for the past two years as she struggled with her memory.

Mom lived a happy and full life with her husband Martin. Mom’s passion for life was her greatest attribute, she always instilled in her children to live life to its fullest. Her husband (Martin) preceded her in 2010 after losing his battle with cancer, Mom leaves in her honor three daughters, Gail Simpson of Calgary, Sharlene Boucher of Calgary, Patricia and Vic Brooker of Penticton; and son James & Tami McBean of Beiseker. Mom’s grandchildren: Angela & Pamela, Shad & Troy, Lisa & Brent, Emily, Brigham, Nicole, Clay & Caleb. Mom was also a great-grandmother to Jessica & Natalie, Logan & Chase, Paige, and Nicholas & Gabrielle.

The years leading up to Mom’s Alzheimer’s where wonderful times, winters in Arizona and Victoria, playing tennis and having bridge parties with her special gal friends. Most days you could find our Mom on the tennis court, the days she was not on the court, she was tending to the garden and planning the next bridge party with her friends.

Mom and Dad had the best life together, they were best friends. They never strayed too far apart, the only time I can recall them being apart was when they were playing tennis against each other during a doubles match (Mom always made Dad work for those shots.) Those times will never be lost in her memory or ours.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Alzheimer Society of Calgary, Suite 201, 222 – 58th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2S3, Telephone: (403)290-0110,

In living memory of Wilma McBean, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
