Peter McArthur, beloved husband of Betty, passed away in Calgary on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the age of 86 years.
His life with Betty was a long and remarkable journey that took them all over the world and resulted in many dear and lifelong friendships.
Peter, son of noted CBC veteran Daniel McArthur and Dorothy grew up in Weston, Ontario, where he met and fell in love with Betty. After serving in the RCAF at the end of World War II, he began a long and successful career with Canadian Pacific Hotels, first at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto and later at the Chateau Lake Louise; then he continued by managing hotels in Winnipeg, Peterborough, Edmonton and Banff, as well as opening properties in Hamburg and Curaçao.
He was very active in organizations such as SKÅL International, the Rotary club, Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, and he served on the executive of the 1983 Edmonton Universiade Games Committee.
Peter is survived by his two sons Peter (Deborah) and Kevin (Lorie); two grandchildren Duncan and Juliana; and sister Jane Weston (Don). He was predeceased by his wife, Betty, who passed away in February of this year, and four sisters, Mary Burns, Catherine Sloan, Ruth Leavens, and Helen Schwentke.
