McANDREWS, Thomas Brian

November 7, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Brian McAndrews of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the age of 97 years.

Brian enlisted in the RCAF in Calgary in 1941. He trained as a navigator and flew a total of 57 bombing raids during WWII. His first tour began in Tunis, Tunisia where bombing raids were conducted over Italy. He was posted to Skipton on Swale and made 22 air raids over Germany, mainly in the Ruhr valley. After the war he enlisted into the RAF, where he served in England and Egypt until October 1952. During this time he was involved in the Berlin Airlift. He enlisted in to the RCAF on contract from August 1953 to October 1959. After 1959 he became a teacher and taught for the CBE for 26 years.

Brian will be dearly missed by his daughters, Jill Bert and Sheila Lock; his sons and daughter-in-law, Ian and Deanne McAndrews, and Scott McAndrews; his grandchildren, Angela and Valerie Lock, Courtney and Daniel Ek; his brother and sister-in-law, Cyril and Joan McAndrews; as well as his sister Anastasia Mary MacDonald.

Brian was predeceased by his loving wife Winifred Vera and his son-in-law Maurice Bert.

Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to thank the incredible staff at the Colonel Belcher for their excellent care of our father.
