Condolence Messages

  1. To Jo-Anne & Family, With Sincere Sympathy To You and to your Family. Its been several years since I have seen Dan. Over the years, Dan would call me from time to time or just dropped in at my Real Estate office, Century 21 Terrace. We would talk about family which was important for Dan and I. Business and Sports always came up as well! I missed hearing from Dan the last few years. I have retired from real estate since January, 2011 after 40 years. I still have fond memories of our of partnership in the late eighties. Dan was very helpful in developing a Century 21 franchise with me. His departure was a big loss but Dan always had big dreams for himself and for his Family. I was not aware of his illness and I am saddened to read of his passing. I will always remember Dan. He was a Good Friend.
    Best Regards,
    Ken Wong

  3. Forbes Newman :

    Dear Joanne,

I was so surprised and very sorry to read that Dan had passed away, far too soon and after what must have been a very difficult journey. Not only for Dan but also for you and the family. These strange neurological diseases that seem to come out of nowhere (I have MS) are a bugger, there is no other word for it. But you play the hand you are dealt and I am sure both you and Dan did that very well. I have not seen either of you since high school, but those Cartwright roots are very deep. Please accept my sincere sympathy and also my best wishes in the days ahead.

    Forbes Newman

    My condolences to the family.
I just want to leave a brief word on how I met and was a friend of Dan’s in the times of Honey’s Pizza.
Although I was 14 years Dan’s junior, we were still able to connect with hockey. Whether it was talking about his cup of coffee in semi pro or about all my relatives that made it to the big leagues.
It’s been a few years since we talked, after Honeys closed down.
Now I’m 53 and playing old timers hockey when Fred Hobday brought out Dan’s Obit and about a half of the room bowed their heads. I didn’t even know that these guys knew my old friend from Honey’s.
RIP Dan. Dan always knew how to laugh. And I was happy to oblige him. Dave (Sugar) Askew
