MAXWELL, Marguerite (Marg) Mary (nee Frederickson)

June 30, 1929 – Winnipeg, MB
July 19, 2014 – Calgary, AB

A beautiful light was extinguished on Saturday, July 19, 2014 when Marguerite (Marg) Mary Maxwell (nee Frederickson) gently and peacefully left this world. Marg was looking forward to joining the love of her life, Thomas Henry Maxwell and her many beloved family members and friends who were waiting for her arrival in heaven.

Marg was the much loved child of Tomas and Olivia Frederickson. She had fond memories of growing up in many ‘beaneries’ across the prairies and returning to her fun and loving Icelandic family each summer in Glenboro, Manitoba. Marg has always been a beautiful person, inside and out, and even caught the eye of Bing Crosby, one summer in Jasper. However, Bing did not hold a candle to her true love Tom Maxwell. They married, and had three children, Shannon (Chisholm), Linda (Mannix) and Tom.

Life took this family to many towns and cities across the prairies and eventually they settled in Calgary. Busy years marked with wonderful trips with lifelong friends to Hawaii, Phoenix, Mexico, and Ireland. Family always came first to Marg and as her children married and grandchildren (eight) and great-grandchildren (six), arrived, they always knew that “Amma” had a cookie, a hug, unconditional love, compassion and time for them and their families.

Amma loved her 3:00 p.m. glass of rye with cheezies and hated squirrels and mice. She was a talented needle-worker and knitter but was very happy to leave the cooking to others. She loved to read and would do anything to avoid exercising. Marg found the world to be an endlessly fascinating place and took such pleasure and pride in the travels and adventures of her family.

If you had the privilege to know this amazing woman, you would remember her for her graciousness, wisdom, kindness, welcoming smile and a twinkle in her eye. Marg believed in counting your blessings every day and that nothing in this world is more important than family. She was a role model for her family and she will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her.

At Marg’s request no formal funeral service will be held. Instead, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and dear friends. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. With special thanks to her amazing family doctor, Dr. Brian Pedersen and the kind and caring staff at Millrise Place and the Chinook Hospice.

In living memory of Marguerite Maxwell, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.

    To Marg’s family
We’re so sorry to hear of Marg’s passing. Although we haven’t been able to get together as much as we would have liked these last few years, we remember all the fun trips and good times we had in the past. She was so proud of her family and we had such good heart to heart talks about life in general. We were lucky to have known her. Gloria and Don Moore

We will always remember with fondness our former neighbours on Fredson Drive. We always enjoyed spending time with Marg and Tom and the family. Time passes but we have pleasant memories of Linda and Shannon baby sitting our kids Leslee, Lori, and Glenn.
Leslee has three grandchildren now and they call her “Amma” as well.

  8. Dear Shannon, Linda & Tom- I am so sorry for your loss……what a kind and beautiful lady your Mother was. My kids called her Auntie Marg and I called her Friend. Things have changed in Fairview and neighbors change, but one thing will never change was the wonderful neighbor that Marg Maxwell was to us. We have many fond memories of our friends across the back alley. Jean, James and Don.
