MASTALISH, Sadie Alexandra (nee Balanko)

June 17, 1919 – August 3, 2012

Sadie Alexandra Mastalish of Calgary passed away peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the age of 93.

The second youngest of ten siblings, Sadie was born in Smoky Lake, Alberta. Sadie excelled in everything she did. She was a terrific cook, a phenomenal gardener, and a self-taught master needlewoman. She enjoyed her last years at Trinity Lodge in Calgary, where she was known as the jigsaw puzzle queen. Sadie will be remembered for her warmth, her generosity, and her lovely smile.

Sadie will be missed by many, especially by her daughter and son-in-law Sylvia and David Spencer; her granddaughters, Tanya, Lara (Helmer), Irena and Karina; and her great-granddaughter Alexandra Helmer. She was predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters, her beloved daughter Margaret Rose, and by the love of her life Stanley Alexander.

In lieu of a memorial ceremony, Sadie suggests that you brew yourself a lovely cup of tea, put your feet up, and enjoy a recording of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. We would like to thank Rockyview Hospital Unit 71 for their excellent care, and the Southwood Hospice, whose dedicated staff cared for Sadie so well and so lovingly during her last month.

In living memory of Sadie Mastalish, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

    Dear Sylvia,

We are saddend by the news of your mothers passing. Although I did not know her well I was always struck by her strength of character and also by the musical talents of her family. I see that the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree in both respects.

Beth, Nicky and I are keeping you, David, Tanya, Lara, Irena, Karina & Alex in our thoughts and prayers.

    God bless,

    Casey

  13. Rose & Jim Jefferson :

Sylvia & David, Please accept our much delayed condolences for the passing of your wonderful and inspiring Mother (in-law). We just found out from my Auntie Sylvia Zukowsky who spoke with Ron Balanko. Auntie Sylvia would like us to also pass her condolences on to you from herself and her family. Although we only had a few visits/phonecalls with Auntie Cece she was a special lady who we are happy to know was related to my Father! We will always feel fortunate to have the beautiful table runner which she made for us and I put out every year around this time.
We are very grateful for the times we visited and wish your Family all the best.
