MARTIN, Ronald James Eld

September 23, 1947 – November 24, 2012

After a courageous fight, Ron passed away peacefully at the age of 65 years.

Ron was born in High River, Alberta on September 23, 1947. He attended high school in Calgary and College in Santa Barbara, California. He had many adventures travelling the world, promoting rock concerts and living in new places. In the mid 70’s he settled back in Calgary where he met his wife and love of his life, Susan. He spent many years working at Greyhound Lines of Canada and then purchased Danatec Educational Services Ltd in 1991. Danatec ended up becoming an integral part of the Martin family; he loved his staff and the safety business. He was a well-respected honest businessman and was a man of his word. The past five years of his life he was fortunate enough to retire in Mexico and found his home there with Sue. He leaves behind a legacy that cannot be replicated. He will be deeply missed by many. He was the true example of a gentleman and an inspiration to us all. He will always and forever be in our thoughts.

Ron is survived by his loving wife Susan; children Alina and Elliott; grandchildren Mia and Evan: as well as many extended relatives and friends.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Foothills Country Hospice Society, P.O. Box 274, Okotoks, AB, Telephone: (403) 995-4673, www.countryhospice.org.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at the Heritage Point Golf Course & Club House, (#1, Heritage Pointe Drive, RR1, Dewinton, AB, T0l 0X0) on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00pm.

Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Ronald Martin, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

    Ron and I shared a lab station in Biology 10, at High River High School. He kept me laughing. And when I got my ears pierced and contact lenses, he was there….keeping me laughing. And there were many times that he came out to our farm in High River and jammed on our piano. I envied him. He could play by ear and I was glued to the Toronto Conservatory pages. I’m sorry that we never stayed in touch over the years. My sincere condolences to his family. Maureen (Kinzell) Maclachlan, in Vancouver.

We hope that as the years pass family and friends will continue to tell his stories and speak fondly to each other of the special gifts that Ron gave to each of you.

  21. Sue my thoughts are with you at this time. You and Ron have been lifetime companions. I know you have many friends who will help you make it through this time. Don’t forget your friends from “the drive”. I am here if you need a coffee and a big hug. I know your loss. It will not be so much in the big things, but rather in the little daily events, like making an evening meal for him, shopping for groceries, or the internal dialog you have with him. Mostly you will miss sharing the events of the day and the plans for tomorrow.
    Love
    Lynda Lou

  22. I just learned of and was saddened by Ron’s passing. We were best friends at high school in High River – played hours and hours of ping pong, bowling and pool; built (unsuccessfully!) rockets, but did not manage to set the house on fire with our home-made gunpowder. We hunted together. He was a big part of my life in High River – a true friend! I will think of him often. My condolences to all of his family.

  23. Thinking of all of you. Ron is greatly missed. I wish so bad that I could be there with all of you. There are no words to express the sadness we are all feeling. Ron was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was kind hearted and to me and was as close to an uncle you get without actually being my uncle. His comments and constant jokes will be dearly missed. We love you Ron, please know will be in our hearts forever.

  24. Linda Robbins(Way) :

    I am sad to hear of Ron’s passing. Our parents had been friends in the war and post war years. Ron and I shared a bond because of that shared history. We also were in high school together in High River, and met several times in the later decades. Ron laughed easily and he was always interested and interesting. He valued connecting and communicating and would extend himself to his friends. I will miss him. Condolences to all of his family.

    You are in our thoughts, Sue. We are really going to miss Ron here in Puerto Morelos. Every time I pass Habaneros, I turn in that direction to look for him. Sue and family. Ron will live on in our memories and stories. We will wait for him to walk up the beach, look for him at Habeneros, see someone who looks like him in the square. When this happens we will smile and remember what a great guy Ron was.
