MARTELL, Yolanda “Lana” Alice

September 11, 1956 – October 16, 2012

Yolanda Martell, beloved wife of Joseph Martell passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the age of 56 years.

Yolanda (Lana) was a warm hearted giving and loving mother, grandmother and wife. She will always be remembered for her outgoing kindness, love, friendships and relationships she anchored and developed with family and friends. All who Lana touched, were awestruck by her giving and entertaining ways. Her zest for life and enthusiasm’s included gardening, homemaking, mothering, grand mothering and giving. Lana’s greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren, daughters, and planning, preparing and cooking for family and friends. Lana was my loving wife, my best friend and “simply the best”. Our daughters and I will love and miss you always my dear.

Lana will be dearly missed by her husband of twenty-four years Joe, daughter Melissa (Lisa) Ferris, grandchildren Dylan and Logan; daughter Karen Ferris (Andres Parra) and granddaughter Tatianna.

Lana will also be missed by Bill (Lynn) Kennett, Brent (Lynda) Kennett, Ray (Debbie) Kennett, James D. Martell, Patricia A. Boyd Martell, Jim (Martha) Martell, Joan Martell, Tom (Cathy) Martell and Patrick (Suzanne) Martell. Lana was predeceased by her parents William Jethro Kennett and Edna May Kennett; sister Shirley Anne (Cookie) Kennett; Joan Theresa Martell and Audrey Martell.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Albert The Great Catholic Church, 10 Prestwick Drive S.E., Calgary, AB on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2.

In living memory of Lana Martell, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss. Though I only knew Lana through the Poker League, I admired her spirit and was impressed by her level of play. I think it’s wonderful that the two of you found a passion that you could enjoy together. Time will take away the hurt but never the memories.

Growing up in a small community of Port Moody, we all knew each other very well. We travelled together from elementary school to high school, along with our brothers and sisters. We grew into mothers and grandmothers & we knew each others children. Lana to me always had a spark & a zest for life. Although I hadnt seen her in many years, the bond of friendship never goes away. My deepest sympathies to her 2 beautiful daughters Lisa & Karen and their children, and Lana’s brothers, Billy, Brent & Ray.

  21. Carol and Keith Lanoue :

Lana was my first friend in Port Moody back in 1969. She was always great fun to hang out with. We lost touch after she had her daughters but we were always able to talk to each other when we saw each other. I have been in touch with Karen over the last couple of years and she has kept me informed about her condition. It is so very sad that she is gone and that her family has to go through this. Our heart felt condolences go out to her husband and her two wonderful daughters. She will be missed dearly. I know that she is watching out for her family and was proud to be a mother to Lisa and Karen. Our deepest sympathy for your loss.
