Andrew W. Markin, beloved husband of Florence of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at the age of 81 years.
Andy was born on March 5, 1923 in Pass Creek, BC. He was the first born son of William and Dora Markin. In 1928 the family moved to Mossleigh, AB to farm. After schooling, he moved to Calgary where he met Flo and they married in 1944.
Andy’s love of mechanics led him to attend SAIT where he received a Certificate in Mechanics and Welding. Over the years he worked as a Mechanic at Mannix Construction and International Harvester. In 1968 he landed his dream job as a Mechanic for the City of Calgary Transit Department and remained there until he retired in 1985 at the age of 62.
Andy’s many passions in life included fishing, camping, hunting, curling, golfing and dancing – especially to Country music with a fiddle accompaniment. He will be fondly remembered for his exuberant energy, his zest for life as well as his ability to tell a great story, with or without the facts. Andy’s hospitable, caring nature and generosity were always appreciated by his many friends and relatives.
