MARK, Georgie (Marzu Hmûga Wîyâ) “Rainbow Woman”

October 10, 1929 – Morley, Alberta
July 5, 2017 – Cochrane, Alberta

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our beloved mom/Înâ who was called home by our Creator and Lord Jesus Christ on July 5, 2017 at the age of 87 years.

Born October 10, 1929, Georgie was a life time resident of the Stoney Nakoda Nation Reserve. She is the daughter of Chief Jacob Twoyoungmen who was the Nation’s Chief from 1933-1957. Georgie will be remembered for her humbleness and dedication to helping and mentoring the youth at the Nakoda College. She will also be remembered for her superior craftsmanship in beadwork, sewing and knitting. Throughout her life Georgie and her late husband John were church members and honoured their cultural values, often blending them with their Christian beliefs. Georgie took pride in her family and remained focused towards their children’s and grandchildren’s future and education.

She and her late husband ran the Nation’s Handicraft store for 20 years and were active Tipi holders at the Calgary Stampede. Georgie will be dearly missed as she was always there for her family and touched many with her kindness and compassion.

Georgie is survived by her three children, Eleanor, Duane, Pam (Celestino); daughter-in-law Reatha; traditionally adopted daughter Dorth Weaselfat; adopted son Darrell Beaver; adopted granddaughter Francine Kaquitts. She is also survived by her siblings, Pauline (JR), Irene, Florence and Helmer Twoyoungmen; brother-in-law Charlie Mark (Cassie); sisters-in-law Doreen and Florence Twoyoungmen. We apologize if we have missed anyone.

Ina is someone I model myself after just like my late Ina’ they’re the best Nakoda women I’ve had the opportunity and privilege to know and grow up along side their way of life.
