MARK – John “Sîktogeja Wîdâ ge” (Gentle Wolf)

August 24, 1925 – March 25, 2010

With a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved Ade, John Mark, was called home suddenly by our Creator on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the age of 84 years.

John was a compassionate man who touched the hearts of many with his sense of humour. His quiet, humble demeanour spoke volumes in relation to his achievements. During WWII (1945), Ade enlisted in the Canadian military where he was stationed at Sarcee Military Barracks. He returned from training in April of 1945. Ade was a strong family man with an equally strong belief in the Creator. He enjoyed the song and dance element of his traditional culture and participated for many decades in the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede (40 years), the latter as a teepee holder (1977-present). As a young man, Ade was an avid horseman and champion rodeo rider. His forte was bull-riding as he rode the newly introduced Brahma Bulls at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede during the mid 40’s (1947-48).

John celebrated sixty years of marriage to his loving wife Georgia. John is survived by his three children, Marguerite, Duane, and Pam (Celestino); daughter-in-law Reatha, and traditionally adopted daughter Dorothy Weaselfat of Standoff, AB. Beloved grandfather to his eight grandchildren, Shauna (Robert), Bryce (Tammy), Cherith, Josh, Celeste, Naomi, Alaena, and Jacob; eight great-grandchildren, Tia, Drey, Bobby, Roberta, Jonah, Ashley, Boyevin, and Roddy. John is also survived by his brother Charlie (Cassie) Mark, sister Doreen Simeon; traditionally adopted sisiter Florence Twoyoungmen; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, all from Morley, AB. John was predeceased by his sons, Brian in 1953 and Roderick in 2006; his parents, Paul in 2002 and Eunice in 1997; brothers, Gerald in 1945 and Wilfred in 1988; and sister Reba in 2007.
