MARIN, Maximilliano Eduardo

July 23, 1974 – Santiago, Chile
March 12, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Max beloved husband of Lindsey Marin (nee McManus) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the age of 43 years.

Max, the world’s most dedicated father and husband, is survived by his wife Lindsey, his children Max Jr., Mateo, Marco and Santiago, his parents Norma and Eduardo Marin, his sister Andria (Braidon), his brother Eduardo Jr. (Devri), along with way too many family and friends to list. He was a mentor to many, and a true OG. He lived his life with a grand passion for everything he did. From family, to martial arts, to entrepreneurship…Max did everything with extreme commitment, energy and love. And he did it all on his own terms.

He was a true warrior, a leader among everyone he knew…and he led strongly from the front. But he also had a softness to him, a sense of spirituality, and a generosity that could never be matched. Max was like an extreme force, a true “Little Sumo” in the Open-Weight Category of life.
Stirring the pot was one of his favorite pastimes, and he would engage in lively debates about anything with anyone….whether they wanted to or not! He especially loved to keep his parents on his toes, whether it be about his career choices, politics, religion or the existence of aliens!

Max was fiercely loyal to his family. He loved his children endlessly, treasured his wife, and adored his brother, sister and parents more than anyone could think possible. He always talked about how his upbringing shaped him to be the man and father he so proudly became, and he passionately and proudly passed those experiences down when he had a family of his own.

Max and his brother & his sister were inseparable growing up and all through adulthood. They naturally gravitated towards each other, leaned on each other, and held each other up always. They love hard, and are a beautiful example of how strong a family bond should be.

Max’s legacy will live on forever through his family, his children and every single person who knew him because he had such a profound effect on anyone he met. It didn’t matter who you were, if Max met you, he made a special connection with you and you could just feel the love and passion he had for life beaming from his soul.
Max is walking on his new mission now, exploring, learning, protecting, hopefully relaxing, getting all his big questions answered, and helping us in other ways….as his incredible greatness was needed for something even bigger than this world. We love you, our perfect Maximilliano….forever and ever and ever and ever. Te amo, mi amore.

Max was predeceased by his Abuelas, Maria and Adriana.

Max, even though we hadn’t seen each other in a while, you made a big mark on my life. You were driven, passionate, one of the best natural athletes I’ve ever met and a truly caring family man. This is still something of a shock. I hope that the next stage is great to you. You will be missed.

Linday and the rest of the Marin clan, I’m so sorry for your loss. This came far too early, and I can’t imagine how you must be feeling. Max was a quality man, and he was taken far too young. All the best to your family in this awful time.

    RIP Little Sumo

  29. We are very sad to learn of Max’s passing. A great loss to the community, his many friends and especially for you, his beloved family.
I only met Max once (at a theatre production to which he brought one of the dear boys.) What a true gentleman in every sense of the word! Max was such a great support to my son,Josh, who had a stroke which left him physically disabled. Max and the others at Knuckles did more for him than all the therapists rolled into one! He will not be forgotten by those who had the privilege to know him and call him friend. Rest In Peace
    Max

Max taught me how to throw a punch and showed me how to be a human being. We spent a lot of our time in the gym talking about life and family. I have so many great memories of him kicking my ass while also lifting me up. The age gap between us was small but the life experience and knowledge gap was large. Max was right all the time! A fact that kept me highly entertained.
    He will be sorely missed.
    Rest In Peace my friend.

  32. Graydon Tannas :

I was saddened to hear of Max’s passing this week. I hadn’t seen or talked to Max in nearly 9 years but he played a very big part of my life throughout my 20’s. He was my coach and friend and I regret that I lost contact with him. I had always hoped to connect with him again but it seems it was not meant to be.

Max and I went on many a road trip to fights all over Canada (both his fights, mine and others) and those are always fond memories for me. I also met my wife of 10 years (Vanessa) at his gym and he attended our wedding and showed everyone how the bows on the chairs could be used as a headband in a pinch. 😀

Really, the day I stepped into Canuckles, way back in 2002, altered my life for the better and I will always be thankful to Max for what he did for me and all the good times we had.

My condolences to Lindsey and family. Know that Max was loved by many and he left a mark on everyone he met.

    Dear Lindsay and boys,

We never knew Max well but our kids are all the same ages and we’ve seen Max and your family at the Glencoe over the years. He was always such a lively guy. I really remember him playing with the kids at the pool and throwing them around (like my dear dad used to do) and they had so much fun. I also appreciated him hosting the Beavers at Canuckles a few weeks ago. My son Mac had so much fun. Our prayers are with you all at this very difficult time.
