MARANO, Nello

November 27, 1925 – August 13, 2012

Nello William Marano, born November 27, 1925, beloved father of his two children, Liana Marano and Nancy Marano, and his wife Rose Marano (nee Moriyama) passed away suddenly on August 13, 2012 at the age of 86.

He was born in Drumheller Alberta, and was the youngest son of and predeceased by Rosalia Marano (Nona, nee Clozza) and Virginio Marano, his sister Liana Maria Sewell (nee Marano), and his wife Mary Marano (nee Boswell), survived by his brother Fayo Marano (wife Beryl), his three grandchildren, Laurali Campbell, Abigail and Nello Marano Jr., his two step children, Rob Moriyama (wife Donna) and Debbie Moriyama, his nephew Gordon Marano and nieces Viviene Trottier and Anne Preston.

During WWII, Nello was a Lieutenant with the Princess Patricia Infantry from 1942-1945. He then went on to graduate from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. Shortly thereafter he moved to Calgary and began his career in the oil business, first as a scout at Stanolind, then as a creator and original founder of Petroleum Information Exchange (PIX), his portion of which he sold, PIX eventually becoming IHS (Accumap) Inc. During this period he also became a Petroleum Landman, working at Pan American Petroleum, where met and married Mary Marano. He joined the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen in 1953. He founded and was President of his first junior oil company when he was in his early thirties and continued as President of Marnell Resources Ltd. until he retired in 2008. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340 – 4th Street S.W.) on Friday, August  17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
